Deadly Dire Avenger

Hello to all i am returning to WHFB and my first army High Elves, I have not played since 6th and i have no idea how an army works in the new rules i am willing to purchase a few models if necessary. A friend has ordered the rule book and we will be starting 1500pts soon my main opponent will be fielding Dwarves and i know he has Slayers, Miners, Ironbreakers, a Cannon and and Engineer.

So far i have

Battle Standard
Mounted Prince
Mounted Mage
Foot Mage x2
Khoril
Spearmen x40
Archers x40
Seaguard x25
White lions x18
Swordmasters x18
Shadow Warriors x6 (Using Aenur as Captain)
Dragon Princes x8
Silverhelms x8
Reavers x5
Tiranoc Chariot x2
Repeater Bolt Thrower x2

What is worth using nowadays?

You can't go wrong with a Lv.4 wizard, the white lions/sword masters, and the horde of spearmen.
Take some archers/chariots/dragon princes/shadow warriors as support, and you'll have a fairly solid army.
The only thing IMO you'll need more of is white lion/sword masters. The sword masters come in the Island of Blood starter set, so you should be able to pick them up very cheap.
How the army works, is you Always Strike First. So you just sit back casting spells and force the opponent to get into HTH. Then your ASF elves wreck shop.
Magic is king in 8th, be sure to read up on the new rules for the Magic Phase, how Horde formations work, the Movment Phase, and how ASF and Steadfast works. These are the areas that have seen some of the bigger changes in 8th ed, or affect your army.

Cause the chicks dig it...

2500 (Skaven), 3000! (Chaos Dwarf), 2500 (Warriors of Chaos)
