Having grown confident enough in my 40k skills I've been looking for larger tournaments in my area and quickly hit a snag: Most of the tournaments in Sweden use the so-called "Swefaq", the Swedish counterpart to the INAT. The part affecting my Templars the most is the fact that this FAQ states that I buy my vehicles from IA2 (see below). This opens up a host of differences to what I'm used to, so I come to you guys for help. Using the IA2 rules more or less means that every vehicle becomes 5-20 points more expensive and loses the Templar-specific upgrades, with the (major) exceptions being Rhinoes and Razorbacks, which become cheaper and get more options (40 points for a TL MM Razorback, borderline broken IMO).

The question is: How do I go about creating a decent Templars list with these conditions? Do I even bother? I feel as if I give up every advantage I have in vehicles in return for cheaper transports, which I'm not sure is worth it. There really isn't any point in playing Black Templars if all you can do is spam razorbacks, is there?

My options are to go ahead and buy the stuff I need for my Templars army or use my former DH stuff to get a GK-army running. Please note that I don't care too much about the cost. What do my fellow Dakkanauts think I should do?

(The following vehicles are allowed, and are purchased as detailed in Imperial Armour 2)
Damocles Rhino
Dreadnought
Drop pod
Land Raider
Land Raider Crusader
Land Raider Promethius
Land raider Helios
Land Speeder Squadron
Land Speeder Tempest
Predator Annihilator
Predator Destructor
Rhino
Sentry guns
Venerable Dreadnought
Vindicator

I really want to stay with my Templars, but I almost feel shoehorned into playing a razorspam list, which I have no desire to do...

Correct me if I'm wrong but the reading I get is you can take anything in the Black Templars codex and may additionally select from the list of vehicles and upgrades in IA2.

Imperial armour
General rules
The following list describes which units are allowed from the Imperial Armour books:

In many ways when you look at it the rules let you trim points by choosing the unit from cheapest place (codex or IA)

Unfortunately, the SweFAQ specifically mentions that all vehicles are bought using the rules in IA 2 and that I am not allowed to buy vehicles or vehicle wargear from my Codex. Hence the problems I'm having. There's not much I can see that justifies playing Templars...

... well maybe I'm missing something but if your right then the only option you've got is to switch to another codex (for example blood angels) ... but if you want a better answer I'd ask on http://www.svenska40k.se/forum/ ... you more likely to get an explanation

Unfortunately (wow, I get to use that word a lot these days ) I've already asked on that site, but as I'm appearently one of two people who play Templars at tournaments in Sweden my opinion is of little to no value. I just thought I'd ask here to see if there's something glaringly obvious that I've missed.

Well I can sort of see why they're doing it ... its to balance out the codex ... trouble is the codex aren't meant to be balanced with IA

Lost in the warp while searching for a new codex

a 40pts TL MM RB is not borderline broken. It is broken, plain and simple. Its one of those things that makes you wonder whether or not forgeworld was serious when they put it out. Not to mention that a SoB Immolator with TLMM costs 85pts

Pretty much my opinion too. The only advantages that Templars have left with these conditions are AACN, NMTO and better-than-everyone-else-terminators. That just isn't enough to make a competetive army.
