So lets take the tyranid psychic power "Catalyst" as an example. It says that at the beginning of your Movement phase you can use it on a friendly model within 12" giving that model the "Feel No Pain" special rule for that turn. So can you use this power on yourself? I would think you should be able to seeing as how you're a friendly model to yourself (you're on the same side) and you're well within 12". Nowhere have I read that you can't do that, but I've never read that you can either, so I was just looking for other opinions.

I disagree, it can be cast on any friendly unit, this would include casting it on the tervigon itself.

Unless the Tervigon is having a bad spike day and isn't being friendly with itself.

Catalysis states a friendly unit within 12". The Trevigon is a friendly unit with 12" of itself, so sure. The term "friendly" here is to discriminate between the player's 'nids and an opponent's 'nids.

It is easier to read it as relating to the player than any specific model.

But what if the player doesn't like any of his models? Or worse, secretly covets his opponent's models?

It seems like no one has a definite answer lol, maybe gameworks should re-visit this rule and clarify

The few times GW have FAQ'd similar situations to this (rules that apply to 'friendly units') they've always gone ahead and said that it also applies to the model with the ability. So I think its safe to assume that this concept applies in all similar situations unless the rule specifically mentions that it doesn't apply to the model/unit with the ability.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Easiest proof - Corbulo, like all Sanguinary priests, affects all friendly units within 6". He gets abetter FNP than anyone else, which he wouldnt if he wasnt considered friendly to himself.
