Hey - I'm having the problem that I can't use Command Squads with ANY HQ units while using Army Builder - is anybody else having that problem, if they use the software? I can't find an explanation for it in the codex or the FAQs, and it's only been happening since early August. I downloaded the Sept 8 update and it didn't fix the problem. I'm asking here because I'm not getting any answers out of the file creator, so I'm curious if someone else has any thoughts.

The limitation on cmd squads it gives is due to there being no captains available from what I can gather.

I'm only using the older 'GK' only file for 40k though, currently (my other three armies are all in storage, so I play with what I have left, which is GK).

Well, that IS what the error says.... but the codex its self comments on at least 3 of the HQ figures being able to affect their specific command squads, with things like the chapter banner and such, and there's nothing in the FAQ to contradict that.

Looks like its just an error with the datafile. They happen from time to time using AB. I remember when for a few months it wouldn't let me add heavy weapons teams to my guard infantry squads. At least this lets you add it, just gives you the error. Unfortunately, this is something you will have to deal with until they update and fix it. If you want to be proactive, I believe that they have a place to submit bugs on a forum somewhere out there. Other than that though, just wait it out.

Also, don't make the mistake of using AB as a replacement for the rules. You were right to look at the codex and FAQs, and you certainly can take a command squad with DA. Army Builder is just a tool, which can be and often is wrong.

Yeah, it just occured to me that it also might be worth your while to check out the AB forums for the 40k file. I know that sometimes you can get the updated file before it gets released to the downloader, and just import it manually. I did this when Grey Knights was out.

You sure you're using the DA part of AB? I used my friend's AB on his laptop something like a month ago and I was able to use Command Squads just fine...although it gave me trouble when I tried to make the DW Termies into troops...

Also, as a side note, Command Squads can only take the Chapter Banner when Azrael is in the list. Belial's rules state that a unit of Deathwing Termies may take the Deathwing Banner and an Apothacary; however, Sammael's rules state that a unit of Ravenwing Bikers may take an Apothacary and the Ravenwing Banner.

Remember those so you don't get into an argument over your list because you misread something!
