My buddy was on here earlier and told me he read somewhere that tyrants cant be insta killed, along with all monstrous creatures, i decided to check my rulebook and could not find anything to back this up. Can someone give me a page number or clarify for me whats going on with this?

They most certainly can be instant deathed. Happens to my tyrant and trygons every once and a while when fighting grey knights. Not even the swarmlord is immune to instant death. :-( major sadface.

Note that most Monstrous Creatures have a Toughness of 6 or greater that would prevent them from being instant killed due to a weapon's Strength being twice their Toughness.

All sorts of other ways to instagib them though
Nids used to all be immune to ID if within Synapse, i think.

Huh, i wish that were the case! Missiles not ID-ing warriors would make them a much better list option! :-)

TY for the responses. Whoever he was reading must have been using the old synapse rule cause that's what he mentioned.

Some units can do an instant death move - not based on the strength/toughness, like Cato Sicarius and his Talassarian Tempest Blade.

We follow in the footsteps of Guilliman.
As it is written in the Codex, so shall it be.

Yeah, I wish monstrous creatures were immune to instant death, but unfortunately not... maybe in 6th ed...
Speculative side-note: perhaps that's why they took EW out of synapse in the current Nids codex. Most 6th ed rumours say that the Tyranids codex was the first one written with 6th ed in mind, so perhaps they left it out because they knew they'd be getting it later?
