Hi there people,

I am looking to build a board for a game I am developing. To go about doing this I am going to have to produce quite a few hexagonal bases that will be textured. I want to get into casting and think this is the perfect occasion to have a go at this.

I understand completely how to make molds, cast the items I want and the use the various techniques that are available to suit what I plan to do.

I am however finding buying the silicone and resin, general casting/mold making supplies very confusing. I am never sure from descriptions if the thing I am looking at is the stuff that I need.

Anyone out there who does this sort of thing regularly, could you please post some links to either the websites you use or better yet the actual products within them that you recommend.

Thanks in advance people

I think various suppliers are mentioned in Blackhand's general casting tutorial in the tuto section.

For my molding and casting, I've been using Smooth-On Here And more specificly, for the Silicon i use Oomoo And for resin i use Smooth-Cast 300 Ofcourse, take a look around the site, you might find something you like better.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

Tomps are the boys to trust.

Casting a bunch of hexagonal bases will be easy as hell because you only need a single piece mould.

I did all my Termagant bases that way.

I used the Addition Cure RTV Silicone Rubber for the moulds and the Fast Cast resin for the bases.

http://www.tomps.com/shop/polyurethane-fast-cast-resin-p-129.html

I didn't need to use a release agent.

The only difficulty was that the resin is mxed by weight not volume, so I used an electronic kitchen scales to make up my batches. I found a scales accurate to +/- 2g was good enough to measure 20g portions of both resin ingredients and they mixed and set well.

The main thing is when mixing the rubber or the resin, mix it thoroughly but slowly, to not introduce air bubbles.
