I'm looking for a rune reference for decorating my Daemon army, but I can't seem to find any kind of list of runes besides the basic symbols of the Daemonic Gods.
The only other reference I found was in the main rulebook (around page 153) where there is a picture of a Bloodletter with runes on his blade.
I could just copy those runes, but I prefer to know what I'm putting on my models, because it gives them just that much more character.

Does anyone know of a dictionary or list of Daemonic runes anywhere?

Well you could just juse plain Norse runes, it would work, and if done correctly they look rather good acctualy

There was the runes the marauder tribes use as their tongue which might be the closest in the 6th ed hordes of chaos book. Might help you out in a pinch.

I keep seeing references to The Dark Tongue, but I can't find any kind of explanation other than brief references.

I don't think as a concept this was ever really expanded. Not like Dwarven runes. You hear some oblique references to it, but really Daemons are Daemons. They don't need runes, they are pure magic. If they write "Eat Poopoo" on their sword it's going to be just as Daemonic as if they got a bunch of squiggly lines--maybe even moreso.

This would contrast with, say, WoC, who are mortals and may need runes (or whatever) to imbue or otherwise reach through to the realm of chaos.

Daemons ARE the realm of chaos.

I agree they can look cool. Experiment around and make your own style. I figure each Lord could have their own set of motifs. I think they're just flourishes done by the art staff cuz it looks spiffy.
