Starting to see my wants take more shape in list building.

Liking Vipers more and more and spiders less. I really can't go without the scorpions...they are what drew me to eldar. Here's a list I just made. I don't know much about Phoenix Lords but it looked like a more viable way to run the scorpions.

-Karandras

ELITE
-9 Striking Scorpions
---1 Striking Scorpion Exarch (Scorpion Claw)

-5 Fire Dragons
---Wave Serpent (Spirit Stones; TL Scatter Lasers)

TROOP
5 Dire Avengers

---Wave Serpent (TL Scatter Lasers)

-10 Storm Guardians (Flamer x2)
---Wave Serpent (TL Missile Launchers)

If I were you. I would lose the Falcons, replace them with War Walker 3 squads of three with Scatter lasers or one squad with EML, or take 2-3 fire prisms. I would lose the squad of storm guardians with fusion guns and try to take 5-6 fire dragon squad in serpent, make the dire avengers 10 man with exarch and bladestorm in serpent. If need cheap troops try to do guardian jetbiike with warlock with speer and embolden (makes them more survivable). I like vypers too, I usually use shuriken cannons and cannon underslung. For the cost I usually do not take scatter or emls on them and I think Brightlances are too expensive. If you want reliable big guns invest in fire dragons or Fire Prisms. But most of the time S6 spam will do well against marines and nids and orks. IG I would take Fire prisms over war walkers, but not as many IG players. I too like to take a close combat squad to use in conjunction with the fire dragons to pop a tank and assult the goodies inside. I think Karandras is badass, but a little expensive. Even though scorpions have strength 4 attacks, without armor modifiers I think banshees do a better job, with initiative too. Plus Jain Zar is pretty bad ass and cheap and make banshees not only fearless, but have furious charge (cool). So I usually use a squad of banshees instead of scorps but that is just my opinion. I still like scorps, I just hope they make them better in the next edition. Cheers

Falcons are fine, They are rock hard scoring units. And you have them kitted out perfectly. They should do just fine for you.

If you are intent on running falcons, it might be in your best interest to run Eldrad instead of a regular Farseer. The reason being is that he can cast 2 guides a turn, which significantly helps deal with the falcon's low ballistic skill. His other abilities also all have their uses.

Vypers, they are a decent unit, however you've got them kitted out all wrong. Each one only has a single shot with bs3. Generally you want to give them scatter lasers so they can make up with their lack luster shooting with volume of fire. Consider- a Vyper with a scatter laser and underslung shuri cannon costs 5 points less than a Bright Lance vyper, and and can shoot up to 7 s6 shots. This gives them better consistancy and better damage against infantry and light armor. There is no shame in spamming s6 guns.

Eiluj is right about the storm guardians, they have no business carying fusion guns. Once again, they have a low ballistic skill to work with. At the end of the day you are paying 92 points for 2 bs 3 melta guns, when you could be paying 80 points for 5 bs 4 melta guns. The fact that storm guardians are scoring does not make up for this. Stick with flamers- you don't have to roll to hit . The only time you'd want to consider fusion storm guardians is if your elites are already full of things you aren't willing to part with. Also, grab the warlock for them, the heavy flamer is worth the 35 poitnts- and you never know when you need to do a charge to sink that witch blade into some delicious armour.

I do agree with Eiluj that Banshees are currently better than Scorpions after the advent of Grey Knights, Blood Angels, and Dark Eldar- however the green dudes are still ok. Outflanking is cool, but very unreliable especially without an Autarch. I actually think that Scorpions work best in a foot list. In a foot list scorpions threat of outflank may trick your opponent into deploying in the middle of the board- right where your wall of Avatar and Wraithlords will be marching up. In a mech list they don't really provide anything that Dire Avengers blade storming or Storm Guardians torching wouldn't do better. That said, you do have them set up in one of their stronger configurations, and backed up by a pheonix lord they should be able to cause some carnage. Just be very wary of squads with a lot of power weapons, as poor Karandras doesn't even have an invulnerable save.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

The vypers aren't worth their points. 70pts for a gun that hits %50 of the time is not good. I would drop all of those and either give yourself a warlock for your storm guardians. Im not a big fan of falcons, they don't do enough for them to pay for their points. I would put either 2 squads of warwalkers and a squad of dark reapers or some 2 - 3 fire prisms maybe with some outflanking war walkers.

I would think about changing the storm guardians to dire avengers or pathfinders. An all assault eldar army usually doesn't work out(i've tried). Warpspiders are pretty badass as a light assault unit to go and clean up. I like the big squad of scorpions but just be really careful how you use them thats alot of points in one spot.
