I presume that you mean you want to strip paint from a model? I use an old toothbrush, an old icecream container full of water and a medicine cup full of Methylated Spirits (I use Diggers). Dip the toothbrush in the Metho and scrub the model with it, and rinse the model and toothbrush off in water fairly frequently to get rid of the lose paint globs. Works a charm on anything acrylic.

You can get simple green at Bunnings but only in major stores. If you can't get that dettol always works fine. You can get dettol at practically every chemist here in AUS.

I've checked with a few of my local Bunnings and at a Mitre10 before, The guy at Mitre10 had never heard of the stuff. The dude at Bunnings told me that they have never stocked Simple Green at any Bunnings stores... so go figure. Although he did put me onto this stuff called Oomph which is supposedly a simple green knock off. It didnt work for me though.

I use dot3 brake fluid (it's important to get the right one. Dot4 can harm plastics).*
Available at most Kmarts and auto stores.

Strips enamels, primers and acrylics with little effort.
Doesn't harm plastics.
Use with an old toothbrush to scrub.

What brand of brake fluid do you use chromedog?
Does it matter?

I've never noticed a difference with brands.
The 'dot3' is the important bit.
The last lot I got (2 litres of it) came from a Kmart.

You MUST wear gloves.
You MUST wear eye protection.
You'll probably need some tweezers or something to extract the minis from the fluid as well.

You probably need to be over 16 to buy it.

I use an old screw-top jar and half fill it with the fluid.
Carefully drop 4-5 minis into it, replace the lid tightly and shake it a bit. Then let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Remove mini from fluid (the paint should 'blister') and scrub with toothbrush. Set aside (use an old icecream tub) and repeat.
You may need to repeat the process (soak and scrub).

It got old GW Imperial guard plastics (the old 30 man box with lasguns and shoulderfired lascannons) clean in two scrubs.
It got the metals (primed and painted with enamels) clean also.

Leave the fluid to settle afterwards. If needed, you can use a spare paper coffee filter to filter out the paint residue. You can reuse it at least three times (I'm only on the third reuse with the current batch).

I use "white spirits" from bunnings. It was like 10$ for like a Ltr. IDK about using it on plastics, Iv only used it on metal models. I soak my models overnight, then grab a toothpick and pick out the bits of paint, sometimes i can just rub the paint off sometimes i gotta use a toothbrush.

The Bunnings guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. I've always bought mine from Bunnings, though with the guy you spoke to being pretty typical of Bunnings CS, I'll be checking out to see if Masters sell it next time I need some...

Under the couch

I used to use Brake Fluid, or 'Big Boy' oven cleaner before it disappeared from the market (other oven cleaners don't work as well).

I switched to Simple Green, on account of brake fluid being nasty, toxic stuff.

As mentioned, Bunnings have it in the cleaning aisle. If they don't have it on the shelf, the Special Orders people should be able to get it.

I grabbed some at Bunnings the other month, so that staff was a moron. Depends on the store though, as said, check out the major stores.

It is 'dot3'. The one I have can be used for both brakes AND transmissions (brake/transmission fluid, as opposed to just "brake fluid".)

The small bottle cost me under $10 (500ml). I've used the same cupful for the last year though (2 cups in the bottle).

The nearest Bunnings doesn't stock SG and the closest one that does is over an hour's drive away.
I have two car parts and accessories places around the corner and both sell brake and transmission fluids.

Wow thanks guys /girls
Never heard of simplegreen myself haha I'll go look for some this weekend and I never would have thought dettol would strip paint of models. Nib actually have some in my room But would simple green or dettol have and effects on the plasic itself like making it bendy or soft cos I used nail pohlish and that's a no go lol that destroy the model

The standard Pine-o-clean works as well, as that's what I use. After testing it seems a single day's soak is enough and damage to plastic occurs after 3 days. This is with it as is and not watered down though.

For metal you could go with either turpentine or methylated spirits. I would suggest you keep it away from plastic as it eats it. Strips the paint near instantly though.

Bunnings don't stock SG in my area either or I'd probably recommend that.
