Hi Dakka!

So I've just finished watching Series 3 of MvF, an I was curious as to these 'eating challenges'.
They are not easily found over this side of the pond, although they look like a lot of fun.

Have any of you Dakkanauts ever tried an eating challenge? If so what was it and did you succeed?

Ive successfully done the gallon challange, its where you have to drink an entire gallon of vitamin D milk, in under 10 minutes, and not vomit for 20 minutes afterwards. It wasnt hard for me, but Ive seen MANY people fail.

My brother the Giant, did a local TacoBell challenge. You have to buy a full Grande Meal and a large drink and eat it all in one sitting. He had 2

Thats it for us, but there are a few restaurants that have challenges around here. Huge ass burgers, massive steaks, you know, the stuff you see on that show. Infact one of the MvF episodes took place at a place called Tony's. It was the 2nd stop if I remember right, and just eating their is like friggin challenge

Local eatery has a 32oz steak challenge.... Steak plus sides..... not really that much of a challenge though, if you pick the right sides. I've been BANNED from certain chinese buffets for eating too much, at least one of them "for life".

Yea theres a place around here with a 32oz steak "challenge" and agreed, if you dont eat a few hours before trying it, its pretty easy to pull off.

My fav quote from MvF though "hey its only 4 and a half pounds of beef your pushing through your colon" hilarious

Heh.

I'd like to see Man v Brussels sprouts.

(He loathes them and will not eat them).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

If I don't eat at all during the day I can easily put down a pair for half pound burgers in one sitting and have room left over. But man, those people putting down 5+ lbs of food in go are nuts.

I used to eat a lot more when I was younger. I really dislike that extremely stuffed feeling so I cut myself off even if I want/could eat more. It's been a long time since I've gorged myself.

Thing is that food challenges fit into three catagories:
Heat
Mass
Time

Heat challenges tend to be easiest..... there is usually a limit on how much you have to consume, extreme spice can cause breathing problems. After that its about tolerance and endurance.

Mass challenges are harder because the stomach is only capable of holding so much. It can stretch, but not much.

Time is simply about speed.... but again you have the capacity issues. Time challenges usually have a "vomit" clause, you have to not just eat fast, but keep it in.

Some combine either mass/time or heat/time.... Heat/mass challenges have become extremely rare, partly due to the possibility of getting capsaisin burns on the lips and tongue, not a pretty thing.
