Mmm. Alpha Legion. Heresy era Alpha Legion. Yum.

Blue? Purple? Indigo? No idea. Whatever they are they don't photograph well (not with my camera at least), but for those interested they're painted Vallejo Sick Blue (GW oop Nauseating blue) over Necron Abyss and have a few washes of Leviathan Purple for good measure. I like the acid Scorpion green as a contrast, and also use metallics as often as possible including ye olde Glistening Green!

Here's some older pics:

These are more recent photos. I've decided to go for scibor ruins & ancient ruins bases (PP style) and plan to add some colourfull foliage and leaf scatter when it arrives.

Lots of lovely models coming soon (Contemptor, and if I'm very lucky the amazing new old school FW LR)

I finally managed to get hold of a Master of the Ravenwing jetbike model.

Damn it's nice.

Here are the bits.

Sadly the leg and robe is attached to the exhaust, so I'll either have to dremel and GS it into oblivion or replace with something else.

Something I didn't know is that the eagle's body & head is a separate piece so I'm thinking of sculpting an A there.

The big problem is the rider. Who? I can't see me getting another two of these seemingly rare and expensive models soon, so a squad is currently out of the question.

A captain/chapter master is the obvious choice, as he could also become a bling squad leader.

A chaplain? Never been big on them.

I'm quite happy with my Librarian which leaves the Master of the Forge (or plain techmarine).

I've seen other MotF jetbike conversion which look odd, but intriguing. I do have an Iron Priest model which has a great MKV armour look about it, and I could replace the under-slung plasma cannon with a conversion beamer.

Thoughts please

A Master of the forge with conversion beamer and bike is probably best unit to base the jetbike on stat-wise.

And yay, more Alpha Legion players on dakka! I like the indigo hue you have managed a lot but it might do well with another extreme highlight with some white mixed into that indigo colour.

It's a matter of personal taste but I unfortunately don't feel for the green metallics, they off-set the colour dynamics of the overall palette and clash violently with the indigo.
The indigo is such an 'intense' colour that it needs either to be complemented by a very neutral colour or another intense colour, the halfway-hue of the green metallic doesn't fit the bill and makes the model look flat.
You would do much better with using a regular green colour (like base-dark angels green-> main Snot green -> highlight scorpion green) for the detail.
Another idea might be to touch up the metal with a black wash, dark blues are very sensitive to straight pale metallics. However I should not dictate how you paint, just trying to convey a little constructive critizism.

I am Alpharius.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

LOVE the jetbike! If you wanted to go for a squad, you could use that one as the leader, and use the ones that Kromlech have for the rest of the squad! They are not as ornate, but they have about the same basic design, I think.

Or, the Master of the Forge idea is also great! And I say yes to the conversion beamer! Good luck! I'll be watching this!

Always glad to receive feedback. To be honest the photography doesn't show the colours off well. I have scorpion green in abundance, and the glistening green is being highlighted with gold, where as the general indigo has on a few models been highlighted with a ouch of Bleached Bone mixed into the Sick Blue.

Anyway, Master of the Forge it is!

A bit of hacking and swearing and scrounging bits plus some blu-tak and here is a rough mock up of the man himself:

The motf is a gorgeous model, and the cbeamer loadout is the way to go. Heavy duty flush cutters deal with robes easily. I used a ven dread head on mine for this (Apols for thread jack)

You sneaky git!

That is a nice techmarine. I'll have a go at removing the legs/robes from the exhausts, but the chaos dread ones I found do have a nice 'chopper' vibe about them.

Question - left hand: a weapon? Hammer? Ad-mech axe? Or some thing else?

Answers oin the back of a postcard please.

*bows* that's me.

I like the idea of a hammer, or a axe front hammer back (see knightley's excellent example: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/630/349329.page#3352544 )

Legs Akimbo:

Pics with and without the prow to give you a sense of where the torso is in relation to the est of the model.

Gonna sculpt him some feet later on.

Mini update:

The beginnings of the A on the prow, plus I brutalised the original exhausts and removed the legs, bum and as much of the cloak as possible. he result is a rather scarred mess, but a usable one. I'm adding thing plasticard as additional cowling which I'll ad further details onto.

Some quick photos -

I've added intermediate layers of Liche Purple between the Necron Abyss and Sick Blue which really helps bring the purple/indigo/blue to life on this big fella.

Nice!

What A fine Alpha Legion cell you have here...

And every time I see a Contemptor, I want 1 (or 2 or 3) even more!

Especially one painted up with the 'right' colors!
