so I had this idea for an idea for a drop pod list that could be sorta competitive (I hope...).

HQ
Librarian w/ epistolary upgrade, terminator armor and storm shield (null zone, and vortex of doom) -190

Troops
10 tac squad w/ melta gun, mm, combi melta and drop pod -215

10 tac squad w/ melta gun, mm, combi melta and drop pod -215

10 tac squad w/ melta gun, mm, combi melta and drop pod -215

10 tac squad w/ pg, mm, combi plasma and drop pod -220

10 tac squad w/ pg, mm, combi plasma and drop pod -220

10 tac squad w/ pg, mm, combi plasma and drop pod -220

Elites
Dread w/ mm, hf and DP w/ homing beacon 160

Dread w/ mm, hf and DP w/ homing beacon 160

So this comes out to 1815 35 points short

I don't really know what to do with the extra points so any advice would be very welcome.
and anything regarding my HQ choice would be nice too since I am not entirely sold on the lib.
also I realise this is not all that ravenguardy so if any of you have a idea of how to make it more fluffy
I would love to hear it.
also any general advice you guys might have would be awesome.

You want Vulkan in your list. Melta doesn't kill everything. Nor do tactical squads. Go for 10 man sternguard all with combimeltas. They can combat squad and take out two tanks as they come down and then become good antiinfantry units. Also I would consider some long range threat, be it dread, deepstriking typhoon or even just a pred rolling on. This will be important against tyranids where you most likely will want to land the pods empty.

The one issue i have against drop pod armies is that you are usually unprepared if an opponent refuses to deploy any units and puts them all in reserve.
You then need to put down your units all with only 24'' range on the battlefield without knowing where the enemy will turn up.
On average they can bring half their forces on and refuse which ever flank is best you destroy what is near. People do say that then dev. squads would be useless coming on in reserve however useless is better than dead. Plus they will only need limited firepower to kill all your units within 24''.

Those are some good points so I was thinking this
I drop one of each kind of tac squad and the libby and get

10 Sternguard w/ 10 Combi melta (or maybe 5 combi plas) and DP -335 pts

2x land speeder typhoons 90 points each

librarian with epistolary upgrade the Avenger and force dome

this is 5 points over but you get the basic gist...

Obviously I like the changes hopefully someone else will eventually give their own view on the matter.
