I have a 2000 Point Grey Knight army and am looking to get an 1850 List of Space Marines
I am going to be doing a custom chapter most likely, but I am not sure what units to feild.
So if you, the community, could tell me some information on what to use, I wanted to use Assault marines, if possible.
I am not sure if they can be competative but thats why I am asking you guys/gals for help.
Thanks in advance.

If you want to use assualt marines try the Blood Angels codex and make your own counts as Chapter based off it.

I'm not sure you are allowed to make a custom chapter using the blood angels codex you could do the Flesh Tearers or something but not a custom chapter I think you can only use the regular space marine codex for that, but I could be wrong.

Blood Angels can make a pretty competive assault marine heavy army list called Decent of Angels if I'm not mistaken. I don't play the codex but I read the forums for usefull advice on what to expect in a competive enviroment.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You can do count's as for any marine codex as long as everything is wysiwyg.

There are loads of chapter that came from Blood Angels so would have the blood thirst.

Using Shrike, he is Raven Guard. You could create your own chapter with the same rules as shrike. They have all fleet so I have heard assault marines can work.

I also like BT assault marines with storm shields. That just be me.

Otherwise space marines can not do cc. You take assault termies because sometimes you need to use cc and no one can do it.

I understand, maybe using the BA codex would work, Im not 100 % sure yet, I wanna do a marine army and wanted to have my own fluff and chapter name, So I am still trying to figure out what exactlly would be the best.

You can make up your own color scheme fluff and chapter name for any of the codexs. So choose which one that fits your play style and then use that codex. You mentioned you like Assault Marines so I suggested Blood Angels. If there is other things you like list them and we can help you decide wich route to take.

Other things to keep in mind:

Right now, it's generally agreed that Blood Angels = Space Wolves > Dark Angels > Black Templars > Regular Marines, as far as competitiveness.

With the exception of Space Wolves and I guess Dark Angels, a generic Marine model (painted however) can fit in an army run out of any of the above codices.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

You can run generic marine models for Dark Angels, though if you're leaning towards assault marines I wouldn't recommend it as they are more expensive and only get plasma pistols as an option iirc.

Angels of Acquittance 1,000 pts 27-8-10
Menoth 15 pts 0-0-0
Dwarves 1,000 pts 3-1-0

Actually I rate it as BA=SW=Deathwing=Extreme BT=Extreme Vanilla
then average BT=average vanilla= Ravenwing
then Dark Angels proper.

This is backed up in tournaments if you look at how few BT and Deathwing enter but how far they go.

As mentioned assault marines for Dark Angels do not work as the army is not ravenwing and Deathwing.
Also all assault marines are badly armed apart from BT and BA. I am assuming you have rejected venguard and the red blooded SW jump packers.

Regular Space Marines can make some of the meanest lists out there. Cheap Mech, cheap anti-tank, Combat Squads and Librarians make sure of that.

OP: Not sure why this was posted in Army List forum, it's not a list. Stop being lazy and put in some effort yourself.

I really am a huge fan of the robed look, for DA and am thinking of using them in a BA army and painting them up like blood angels but I think the robes will look cool

So I have decided to go with Blood Angels and I am going to kit bash the Dark Angel veteran robed bodies for pretty much every mini i can for my Blood Angels, I may call them something of my own but they are going to be painted pretty much exactlly the same as the blood angels. I think it will be really cool, now I have to find a competative BA list, so if anyone has suggestion please let me know.
Thanks again

Run CSM instead. Sure our assault troops are crap, but we get berserkers, Kharn, Abaddon, chaos dreads, oblits, four (count 'em, four) gods, all with fun gifts for your mans to play with, and biiiiiiiig units of dudes. You might not be competitive, but you'll have fun.
