Good evening guys (or whatever time-stance may be appropriate) but I was musing over my Chaos Space Marine codex looking at daemon weapons, and looked once again at the Tzeentch Daemon weapon with possibility.

I've seen on other sights (3++ is the new black, and a couple of others) people downing Daemon weapons in general, but especially the Tzeentch one because it's a shooting one.

I looked again (pg. 93, chaos space marine codex): a Daemon weapon is a 2 handed power weapon that grants D6 extra attacks on top of base attacks. Under the Tzeentch (Deathscreamer) listing, it says that "The Deathscreamer can be fired in the Shooting phase, with the following profile..." (not listed of course-bolter range with d6 shots)

Now, I've got two questions.

1. Can the Tzeentch daemon weapon be used in close combat, as a 'normal' daemon weapon, as well as in the shooting phase?

2. If it can indeed be used in the assault phase, can it also be used in the shooting phase? So like, d6 shots, assault, D6+base close combat weapon attacks?

Thank you guys in advance for the insight.

1) Yes
2) Yes, as it is an assault weapon. Nothing limits the use to one or the other

Here is your evaluation of Daemon weapons.

Vanilla = +1 str is nice, but the benefit of the marks far outweighs the advantage of +1 str.
Khorne = Horrid, you're going to kill yourself.
Nurgle = Poisoned is nice, the +1 toughness is better
Tzeentch = +1 to invulnerable save and an okay ranged attack
Slaanesh = +1 init and your attacks are now ID

Couldn't agree more. I've had some luck with it in Apocalypse (pretty much the only time I'd use the Bloodfeeder), but even if he rolls the maximum number of attacks, he'd still only kill about 1 more MEq than Kharn would.

Anyway, yeah, the Tzeentch weapon allows you to use it both in the shooting phase and the assault phase. In that sense, it actually becomes significantly better than the Bloodfeeder...
