I am pretty new to 40k and so far have built up the following army, i am just not sure where to go next, so any advice would be really invaluable;

HQ
Warboss (bosspole & power claw)
Mek Boss (2 grots, bosspole & Banner)

Elites
10 Nobz
5 Lootas

Troops
30 Boyz (3 big shootas)
30 Boyz (3 big shootas)
20 Boyz (1 Nob, 2 Big shootas)
10 Gretchin (1 runtherd)

Fast Attack
5 Stromboyz
3 Deffkoptas

Transport
1 Trukk

so, i'm wandering what i should be concentrating on getting next. Also, if i wanted to keep building this army up until it was at around 10,000pts but at the same time make it playable as it grew, what should i be getting at each stage to do this? What points should i aim for at each stage of building at big Ork army? (example; 500, 1200, 2000, 5000 etc)

Any advice would be really useful, so thanks in advance

Your nobs need be wound allocation nightmares with a painboy.
I find Lootas need support and protection. That is something to keep them alive and something to add to their shooting. In any case more lootas will benefit your current lootas.
Boyz squads need a nob with klaw and most of the time boss pole.
Stormboyz need to be in a squad of at least 12. When they are needed they need to have power to hold their own.


Now you need to choose a direction. What do you want to spam? You will need loads of either boyz, kanz, trukks or battlewagons.

So foot slogging loads of 30 squad boyz.
Or 9 kanz and 2 dreads.
Or 6 trukks full of boyz
Or 4 battlewagons
Or 2 battlewagon and 3 trukks.

All of these work well. This is really the way to really make orks work. You can take whatever support. For example you can a large shooting element to the foot slogging boyz. The only thing is do not buy Flashgitz.

Firstly, thank you.

I figured that the 5 Lootas and 5 Stromboyz were not actually enough to be effective. As for direction, i assumed that if (eventually) you wanted to build up to a massive Armaggedon style army you would need to have pretty much everything. Trucks, Battlewagons, hundreds of Boyz, etc Is this not the case?

The reason i have decided to try and build up such a large army, is because i live in the middle of nowhere, so playing games will actually be few and far between. I really like the modeling and painting side of the hobby, so i thought that i could just keep building and army up until i get a good chance to spend all day playing an epic game. The only thing is; if the chance comes up pre 10,000 pts then i could do to have something that would actually work on its own.

If it helps at all, i have so far based all the boyz on Deathskulls and Blood Axe clanz. I guess this may help with direction; less warbikers and Tankbustas and more Lootas and Killa Kanz.

Thanks for the advice though. Better get a box of Nobz and some more trukks!

I would describe it as Orks are the one army that does not do balance. You could foot slog and trukk and wagon. But none of the elements are strong enough to hold their own and can targetted by the correct weapon, i.e. lascannons hit BW, heavy bolters hit the foot sloggers. Fortunately orks are cheap we can take loads of something and give them too many targets. For example most armies will not have enough long range av14 to stop all 4 battlewagons with a kff.

I am not so fond of looted wagons, I play one as I like my model. If you wanted to play a tank then make a landraider into a battlewagon.
Also commandos need snikrot.

Anyway Blood axe theme for me would be 9 kannons made using bits from imperial guard heavy weapon teams and goblins from WHFB, then with loads of lootas made with ork boyz and bits from imperial guard weapons. Also I would go for 2nd edition gretchin to make a 29 big squad as they are cheap and look Blood axey to me.
You can create this huge shooting element to your army with grots as cannon fodder. Then add which ever attack option you can fit into the remaining points but usually foot slogging orks are the only option.
