I'm working out a roughly 1000- 1250 point list and am starting from scratch having never played them before, so I'm trying to decide what the invest my money in...this is what I'm thinking so far as a starting point. Any suggestions on what I've listed or what I should be adding are appreciated.
1. Tyrant with Ironfist and other upgrades yet to be decided
2. Bruiser with Battle Standard
3. 12 Warriors with Ironfists (going to split them into 2 blocks)
4. 3 Mournfang Cavalry (I thought about using Ironblasters instead and am still undecided...both are very nice models)

I was mainly concerned with having a battle standard due to low leadership. I do like that list though.

thanks, was bit of a quick drum up.
You could deffinently add the bruiser in 1250, but I still think you'd be better off adding to your two ogre units.

I'll give that some thought. At what point would you recommend adding in the standard? Also, on the warriors, what is a decent unit size for this point range? I'm not used to working with monstrous infantry. I can see that the small unit size (despite their extra wounds) could be a problem especially considering their lousy leadership, low initiative and relatively weak armor saves. I guess their saving grace is that they are going to get to answer back due to the extra wounds and hopefully do some damage before it comes time for combat results.

That one is very good too. With that you could add to your units and possibly get a butcher too.

Thanks for the help guys. That gives me some stuff to think about and I will likely use one of these lists as a starting point for my army. Basically, I just want to make sure I have something that is effective at low point values and that I won't immediately retire when I expand my force.

I probably wouldn't use a Tyrant that low either. Bruisers are plenty good, and likely better for their cost. If you have a BSB I think you got LD covered.

I will likely go with the second list as a bsb would be preferable (and buying just two boxes of warriors instead of three would be a little easier as well).

Would it be advisable to throw in a firebelly instead of a second butcher? I know their would be leadership problems but he could be very useful as well...plus I really like that miniature.

Depends. I am using a Firebelly in all my armies, cause it's a cool model, and I like having the flaming attacks for irritating regenerating creatures. I think one Butcher/slaughtermaster is good enough. But it's the last add in I'd do, lots of other things need to be built up first. And I had some issues with the PoorCast model.

I know I will be facing Skaven primarily which is another reason I was thinking of taking him. The slaughtermaster is a nice mini too but it may be a while before I include him due to using lower points to start with. But, what do you think I should build up first Creon?

Depends on what you're going for. There are 3 ways to go:
1) Hard Hitting: Get Ironguts to bulk out your Ogreness. And a Thundertusk or Stonehorn. I advise a Thundertusk, as it will slow down the Skaven around it to Ironguts speed.
2) Control the board: Get the MGTS (Mobile Gnoblar Terrain System) units to control who charges what.
3) Shooting: Get LeadBelchers and an IronBlaster or two. Very effective range weapons
I advise not trying to compete with Skaven in shooting, they'll do it better. And probably aren't charging Ogres a good deal, so that takes 2 and 3 off the table. So, it's get Ironguts and a Monster of some sort

Going against Skaven your going to need as many bodies as you can get, because of this I would recommend dropping the cavalry and taking a third unit of Ogers.

Mournfangs are a lot tougher than they look. Most times I'd agree with you, but they are rock solid, and should not be dropped.

I do believe I will keep the mournfangs. Not only because I like the minis but I'm expecting great things from them.
