Looking around for models to convert into a Mark of Tzeentch Daemon Prince...Came across the lovely Ushabti models. The bird-man in particular seems like a perfect fit. I'm curious about the model's height though... Does anyone out there own any Ushabti? If so, could you tell me about how tall they are? I'm wondering specifically how they compare to a Daemon Prince model in size. If anyone could provide an actual height measurement, I would be forever in your debt.

Well Ushabti are filling a 40mm base, so are about ogre sized.
Daemon Princes fill a 60mm base, so are considerably taller and bigger.

Thanks for that. I think I'll probably just have to add something to the Ushabti's base to get up to standard Prince height. The models are just too pretty to resist.

They are just a little shorter than the regular daemon princes but far less bulkier.

Thanks Manuel. Their spare frame was part of the appeal for me. I didn't think a hulking, muscular Prince would be very Tzeentch-y, especially as I intend to use him primarily as fire support.

I'll be picking up a box of Ushabti on the way home from work. I'll post measurements and a comparison pic soon to hopefully assist the inquiring minds of tomorrow.

Never would of thought of that, but it sounds like a great idea. Looking forward to seeing progress.
Maybe the Jackal-headed one could be used as something Khorne?

More or less yes...Great, we've gone from cheap resin substitutes to weapons banned by the geneva convention...

The new Failcast ones are somewhat bigger than their predecessors, see here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/90/365225.page (scroll down)

So, I bought the Finecast Ushabti three-pack. Here's some comparison pictures:

Ushabti on std. base / Nurgle Daemon Prince

Looking a little short.

Ushabti on painstakingly modified alternate base / Nurgle Daemon Prince

Now slightly taller! Not bad.

Group shot (sorry it's a little blurry, took this off my phone):

So obviously Ushabti aren't nearly as bulky as the Princes, but I think they still look appropriately sized. On the 60mm+40mm base, they're ever-so-slightly taller than the Nurgle DP and the plastic (Khorne) DP.

I think I'll be converting all three of mine to Tzeentch Princes. The jackal might not be 100% appropriate but...eh. I just love his face. Now I think I'd like to find an appropriately sized staff-extension for each of them. Hopefully something I can stick a Tzeentch icon on. The blades are neat, but I'd like something to play up their magic powers more than their cleaving-guys-in-half powers.

Ushabti box costs 30 pounds, Fateweaver 36 pounds and looks better.

Best looking bird demon would be the Ultraforge Vrock (80$), but it is hard to find in stores:

Ushabti box comes with 3 Ushabti, vs 1 Fateweaver. Used as 3 Daemon Princes, the Ushabti are a great bargain.

And Fateweaver's also a distinctive special character, not to mention frequently in my list already, so...eh.

The Vrock looks nice, but I think that's kind of over-doing it. Daemon Princes were formerly human, so it seems off to me to have them upstaging a Lord of Change in birdiness.

Now I am interested in seeing your list with 3 HQs

Well my list with Fateweaver/Skulltaker/Herald of Khorne has 3 HQ and is perfectly legal! But yeah, I play Chaos Daemons, so Daemon Princes are always fielded as Heavy Support. I usually take 2-3 Princes every game (plus 1-2 Greater Daemons as HQ). I don't know how often I'll want to take 3 Tzeentch Princes, but it's nice to have the option. (This would also explain why my Princes won't need wings. For Daemons, Wings cost 60 pts (!) which isn't really worth it on a shooty Tzeentch DP.)

Might be a good idea to add something to make them a bit "bulkier" without sacrificing how they look. I'm suggesting skeletal wings with bandages. Pretty easy to make.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

They'd probably look really nice with the skeletal Chaos Spawn wings. I'd definitely do that if mine weren't non-flying and my MoN-DP didn't already have those same wings. They could definitely use a little more bulk though...I'm hoping modifying the blades as lengthy, magical-looking staffs take care of some of that.

Maybe to add some size on the back side of the model, I could add more strands of cloth hanging down (like the cloth already hanging from the right side of the Ushabti model)?
