If someone could please educate me on how to paint the Seals and Parchments that are usually on most SM, I would be very appreciative. I just recently painted a Librarian, but the white pages for his book and parchment don't quite look right. I used the color bleached bone to paint his tunic so I really cant reuse it for the parchment. Any tips or different ideas on other colors to pick up for this very use?

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

You really need the distinction between parchment and bone on Chaplains, so plan ahead! Give your white a sepia wash and it'll do wonders - I usually use Dheneb Stone but wash it down it more so it ends up darker than the bleached/yellow-to-white bone which is starker by contrast. Many people do it the other way around. I think it makes sense for parchment to be far more yellowed.

take a teabag and soak it, either use the stained water as a wash or use the teabag as a stain. its actually a great way to antique paper. Its a little trick i use when designing and want to achieve that look.

I'm sure if you figure out a good way to either concentrate the stain for a wash or whatever, it would work better than anything and would be perfect to create a distinction between the tunic and parchment

Bleach bone as a base, hit it with Dev mud, clean it up with more bone, then highlight with Dheneb stone

Thank you for the advice. I am heading out to get me the washes and even some tea bags! Thank you again!

I will throw another vote towards the Dev Mud. That is what I used on my Chaplain. Bleached Bone & black wash for bone, and white & Mud for parchment.

I am wondering where it is written that because you painted the robe bleached bone,you cant paint the paper bleached bone?

Take a look at this guy;

The skull mask and parchment were all painted with the same color, Valllejo Ivory. Then on the parchment I simply used washes of varied brown and yellow shades to give the paper the effect I wanted. The text was done with light brown, Vallejo Beige Brown, this helped to minimize the contrast.
