Subject: Henchmen armies, anyone playing them?

Hello all,
I just wanted to know if anyone is playing or seeing a lot of Coteaz henchmen armies out there. There used to be a lot of Inquisitorial storm trooper armies out there for both Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters. I don't get out to the shops much these days and was wondering if peoplel have managed to make a smooth transition into the new rules. If anyone is playing them or playing agianst them, are they having much success? Do they fair well without a lot of Grey Knight help? Let me know what the word on the street is.

Yes, too many of them
When a troops choice costs 12 points, and a psyback is about 60, you can fit a lot in a list.
Boring as hell to play against

Is it that different than playing against an Imperial guard army. What kind of things do you see in the henchmen squads. I was thinking that people would simply make thier old storm troopers henchmen with carapace armour and hot shot guns and maybe a few special weapons thrown in. Do you see more squads like that or all mixed of different things?

It depends, but it is slightly different.
You can get those Chimeras on the field sooner(min size squad is 3 as opposed to 5 for IG, IIRC) and with less point investment.
Then you pour all the points you saved into Elites, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support. 6 Psyfleman dreadnoughts and 3 squads of interceptors.

hmmm, that is a lot different then I would have expected. Is it very effective? It seems with such small troop units they would have a hard time playing objective games.

Well they generally stick inside the Chimeras and sit on objectives.
Units are also generally not 3, but 6 or 7. maybe 3 super cheapo henchmen and then a couple of Servitors with heavy weapons for some ranged support.
It is a super efficient method of play. And this assumes you don't splurg a little on an assaulty henchmen squad made of Deathcultists and Crusaders piling out of a Landraider or Stormraven, suppored by Rad and Psychotroke grenades from an Inquisitor or GKGM.

That actually sounds cool. It seems like a fair trade from the storm troopers in the daemon hunter book. You give up the high BS but save on points and flexibility. I don’t see too many land raiders in the GK lists posted online, do you see them much in stores?

I sometimes run Landraiders, but that is for my Purifiers to come out of as I don't run henchmen.

Nice battle report. It seems that the army works well for you. It doesn't seem that you have a hard time controling objective either.

Working on some atm. I want to pile a bunch of DCAs with Crusaders and an Inquisitor with that badass nade' spam into an assault vehicle(probably a Stormraven for fun factor)
Also working on getting some multi-melta servitors and apes into a Chimera.

My Armies:
- Death Wing and Green Wing
- Tacticals and Devastators
- Retired

With 6 cheap as chips troops choices, objective games are a doddle. You're not reliant on them to actually kill anything.
Also, why bother with chimera when psybacks give you hgher BS, TL S6 AND fortitude?

And then you add in the Knights and so it's not a pure inquisitional army. I've tried to rebuild my inquisitional army with the new codex. While the new codex has some nice stuff in it, fully ignoring the GKs means a very basic army. Even if you stretch to allow rhinos and land raiders (they can be modelled to have guardsmen crew instead of marine).

Not henchmen army, sorry. One GK and/or dread and it's not a pure henchmen army. You can get away with rhinos and stormravens and landraiders by saying they are crewed by non- GKs, but dreads? Can't reallly play those off without having a dead marine inside.
Wow that came out weird, my responces to two posts got mixed in with the posts into one giant quote....

It is difficult to have a viable pure inquisition army with no GKs at all, athough with vehicles you can stretch that line.

I might end up using them at some point to field the Adeptus Arbites I have, with my judge standing in as Coteaz. I'd need to find someone willing to play a 400 point game or whatever though.

I have thought of that as well, the only problem is there are no shot guns or grenade launchers in the GK list. I have a three squads with bolters and plasma guns, but that leaves me with 6 squads of shotgun/grenade launcher totting guys with no where to go. However the it would be nice to have access to both rhinos and chimeras again now that the WH codex is out. Guard should be able to have Rhinos, they did in the old days.
