The scenario is simple: The only Monolith on the table is completely surrounded by enemy units. A unit of Warriors comes in via Reserves and attempts to use the Monolith. The portal is blocked and due to the Monolith being completely surrounded the Warriors cannot perform an emergency disembark. The emergency disembark rules state the unit just cannot disembark. Fine, but what happens to the Warriros? Are they lost? Returned back in to Reserves? Hanging around somewhere in the Monolith waiting for the portal to open?

They would be destroyed, because they must disembark, however they cannot.

They must disembark but cannot, and are destroyed. See BRB FAQ which confirms what happens ify ou cannot disembark when you must

Worth pointing out, they must have been stated to be coming in via the monolith before the game begins, if not then they would not have that option and be forced to enter the board edge

off topic
This is a question I've had for a long time b/c it says in the warrior rules that any warriors in reserve must enter play via monolith. what happens now that things like DOW have been brought into the game? Does the old codex specific rule still overide the new game type?

Pretre: Are repressors assault vehicles? If they are, I'm gonna need emergency pants.
n0t_u: No, but six can shoot out of it. Other than that it's a Rhino with a Heavy Flamer thrown on if I remember correctly.
Pretre: Thanks! I guess my pants are safe and clean after all.

The monolith rules originally applied to warriors in excess of the base 2 units needed for your FoC. The reserve rule they used was distinct to the normal game rules, as at the time the codex was written, Reserves was a special rule that only applied to certain scenarios.

The FAQ (quite badly, and in possibly the most vague way imaginable) tried to clear this up, with the general concensus being that you can now choose to keep as few or as many of your Warriors in Reserve as you choose, just like any other army.

Any number of these units can be declared to be arriving through the monolith or not. Those that are declared as coming through the Monolith must do so. The rest will walk on as normal.

For DoW, those same rules would apply, with the obvious exception that any units not declared in reserve would be walking on 1st turn as per the DoW rules.
