I was having a game against my friend, (I was playing High Elves) and my Archmage was in a unit of Swordmasters. There was also a noble in the unit with the banner of the world dragon. This banner makes the unit immune to magical effects. However, the Archmage miscasted and I rolled Calamitous detonation. We were not sure whether the swordmasters should take damage from the miscast. Should they have?

Banner of the world dragon makes your unit immune to spell effects. This is different from "magical effects."

The effects of the miscast would indeed apply to your unit.

2,500 - Discipline. Duty. Unyielding Will.
2,000 - He alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood.
2,500 - Order. Unity. Obedience.

But the miscast is the effect of a spell.
Just in this case it is the accidental result of a spell...

No, it is not a spell effect. It is a miscast effect

As in, no matter what spell you are casting, you can miscast. The miscast is not a property of a spell but of the magic rules

Fair enough.

Someday, nos is going to be wrong. Possibly not in my lifetime, though ^ _ ^

Manchu wrote:It's a lie, K_K, pure Imperial propaganda. Where's the Talon of Horus, huh? Plus everyone knows the Imperium planned and carried out the invasion of Cadia itself. Bin Abaddon was just a convenient scapegoat.

I'm wrong plenty often, I try tyo learn from my mistakes and hopefully avoid repeating them

I'm much less up on fantasy rules compared to 40k, to be honest....

The other thing to look at is the fact that MR does not apply to miscast rolls, as per FAQ. So clearly it's not a "magic" affect.

Good point, Creon- that definitely helps make it clear.
