Subject: Couple of rules questions from recent game - Multiple coversaves+markerlights & tank coversaves

1) Turbo boosted storm raven contatining libby that has successfully cast shield. Gets markerlighted to strip away the 3+ coversave from the turbo-boost. Can you now use the 5+ shield coversave as it has become your "best" save of any one type?
2) Can a tank ever use a cover save provided by intervening models, given that it is >50% covered?
We played no and no, and all concerned were happy with the results, just wondering if we played correctly!

1) No, as the markerlight reduction applies to "any Cover Saves the unit might have..." and thus reduces all the Cover Saves by the same amount.
2) Yes. If it is 50% covered from LoS then it will get whatever Cover Save is granted by what is doing the obscuring. If that is models, friendly or otherwise, it will be a 4+.

Would we get some more clarification on 2?
What was blocking LOS? Was it the shooters unit etc?

I'm curious as to what would lead you to believe that it can't...

I believe that it can actually, but the other 2 guys playing (1 from each side) were both very sure that interveneing models can never offer cover to MCs or tanks.
It was a game of doubles, and I was firing a melta off a dread through a unit of infantry at a chimeira. I was discussing with the guy I was firing at whether he got cover, and we decided it looked close enough that I was offering him a save. As he was about to roll it, both my partner and his partner ventured the opinions that Tanks and MCs could never get a cover save off intervening models. They seemed pretty sure, so we went with that interpretation.
Its a regular group of guys that I play with and we are generally more busy having a beer and a chat than rules lawyering, so none of this ever leads to any animosity, but like most people Id rather play the correct rules than the wrong ones.

It is one of those mythical rules that pops up from time to time, but there is no basis for it in the actual cover rules.
Anything that can provide cover to normal units can provide cover to vehicles. The only proviso is how much of the vehicle needs to be obscured to count as being in that cover.

Fairy nuff!
It was unusual because whilst we all have an at least passable knowledge of the rules, the two guys that vetoed it are the two tourney players who I'd say had the better rules knowledge. Was it perhaps in an older edition of the game? Having only ever played 2nd and 5th, I wouldnt know.

1) Is also incorrect - a) it is Flat Out, not Turboboost, and b) it is a 4+ cover save, not a 3+

As it turns out, yes... Last edition, the only other models that could provide cover to vehicles were other vehicles, artillery or monstrous creatures.
I had forgotten that... I think my brain is trying to blank 4th edition from my memory.
