Hello. I've been wanting to become competitive in WH40k so have been working on a good list to start off with. Any criticism is welcomed.

== HQ ==
Hive Tyrant (1) - Scything Talons, Scything Talons, Wings, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Old Adversary = 255 pts.

== Elites ==
The Doom Of Malan'tai Brood (130 pts.)
The Doom Of Malan'tai (1) = 90 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.
Zoanthrope Brood (3) = 180 pts.
Hive Guard Brood (3) = 150 pts.

== Troops ==
Tervigon (1) - Stinger Salvo, AG, Toxin Sacs = 180 pts.

I like the army, but I would find a way to atleast add catalyst to both Tervigons. You could drop one Trygon Prime to a regular Trygon and have those points.

The doom of M can not join a unit of zoans in a pod. So you will need to drop him or the squad of zoans with him.

First I would drop old Adversary, and add commander since a ton of your army is starting in reserves, also this lets a tervigon outflank if you want it to.

Next the other zoan squad needs a pod, otherwise they will never be in range to do anything of worth.

With the spare points i would beef up the gargoyles, take 3 sporemines as a Fa slot, and add the run and shoot psychic power to one tervigon so he can buff the hive guard.

"With the spare points" from what? You're asking him to add a 40 point upgrade (pod for the zoans) and beef up the gargs, add some spore mines (I'm guessing for deployment restrictions) and a Tervi power... but not suggesting to cut anything (the OA/HC swap is point neutral). Also, the DoM has a pod, he's not saying the DoM joins the Zoans in the pod.

As suggested, I'd drop a Prime down to a normal Trygon to grab a Spore for the Zoans, and drop both garg broods down to 20, put TS on them... not sure how many points you'll have left after that...

The Gargoyles would be better with toxin sacs at least and probably adrenal glands to make them more meaner. Two units of 20 would be fine. I think you will struggle with mass mech armies, you really only have two ranged shooting units for anti tank.

Thanks for all of the replies! I made a new list based on the feedback:

== HQ ==
Hive Tyrant (1) - Scything Talons, Scything Talons, Wings, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Hive Commander = 255 pts.

== Elites ==
The Doom Of Malan'tai Brood (130 pts.)
The Doom Of Malan'tai (1) = 90 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.

Zoanthrope Brood (220 pts.)
Zoanthrope (3) = 180 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.

Hive Guard Brood (3) = 150 pts.

== Troops ==
Tervigon (1) - Stinger Salvo, AG, Toxin Sacs, Onslaught = 195 pts.

Tervigon (1) - Stinger Salvo, AG, Toxin Sacs, Cat = 195 pts.

Termagant Brood (12) - Fleshborer = 60 pts.

Termagant Brood (11) - Fleshborer = 55 pts.

== Fast Attack ==
Gargoyle Brood (20) - Toxin Sacs = 140 pts.

Gargoyle Brood (20) - Toxin Sacs = 140 pts.

== Heavy Support ==
Trygon Prime (1) - Containment Spines, AG, Synapse Creature, Shadow In The Warp = 250 pts.

Trygon (1) - AG, Instinctive Behaviour - Feed = 210 pts.

== Total ==
2000 pts.

The reason I picked catalyst was to add some survivability to the Hive Tyrant with the 15 points I had left over. Am I correct in thinking that normal deployment for the regular trygon is optimal or should it be both?

My only question about the list, which overall I like a lot, is why you've got adrenal glands and toxin sacs on the tervigons? I don't immediately see the efficiency in it, given that it's already wounding most things on 2s and doesn't benefit a great deal from furious charge.

The upgrades on the tervigons also go to nearby gaunts. Wounding on 4+ and usually rerolling is quite useful on free gaunts!

The extra points come from making your list LEGAL.

as I stated before the doom can not join a squad of Zoans so you will need to cut the squad or the doom himself, I would suggest the doom since he no longer hits units in transports and he gets insta-killed from normal missiles.

I don't understand where I stated that he was going in the squad?

He never said the DoM was with the Zoeys. And the DoM is still pretty powerful, if only as a (powerful) distraction.

Instead of adding stuff up and thinking logically, you misread the way he posted his list and got bent out of shape. The list is perfectly legal.

Ah- guess I missed that detail in the codex- oops. Thank you- one more reason to make a tervigon.
