As it says in the tin. What is your dream Real Time Strategy or 4X game that you have been wanting to see?

In my opinion I am looking for a game that has the customization of Spore and the endless exploration and endless options. I want it to be a fantasy game or a game set in the ancient world to modern times. I want it to be like Sim City but with Empire building and other such where you can customize anything and everything in the game. I was thinking like Civilizations but in real time and much larger in scale.

Honestly, I would really like Dawn of War III to be much more like Company of Heroes, but keep the army painter and the commanders, but combine that with the Last Stand heroes and the customization that entails.. I think that would be awesomely fun.

Alternatively, an RTS with strong RPG elements and unit progression and tech upgrades that you keep. Something similar to Shattered Galaxy except better.

I would think that a Paradox interactive game that isn't always buggy upon release would be a good choice.

For once in my life, I'd like an rts that allows me to set up formation with troops. This is something that is never implemented for reasons beyond my comprehension. It's popped up in a game here or there, but that's about it.

Of course, not only would I like to be able to set formation, I'd like it if the damn AI would stick to the formation after moving or during combat, unless panic sets in.

Total war series anyone? but I guess that is more of a RTT than an RTS.

A Total War game with 10X larger scale and 10X lighter system requirements. Sadly I'm not imaginative enough to come up with something cooler :/

A game that combines RTS with FPS, that allows me to go from slogging it out in the trenches to an overhead map so I can give directions to squads and vehicles, and then jump back into my Hero-character and watch as those same squads carry out my orders from a ground-level view.

Negative. Total war just tells you where to send individual units. What I mean is that you make a unit of archers, spearmen, and swordsmen. I want to be able to group them to where spearmen are in the front, swordsmen in the middle, and archers at the back. I want it to be one unit that will always stay in this formation, especially when reacting to getting charged from a single direction. Having to select all three units, and slow down time to a crawl just so they can stick to formation is annoying.

Mind you I've only played Shogun 2 Total War so if things were better in the other games I wouldn't know.

I'd say Dwarf Fortress with actual graphics and audio, but that's more a simulator with RTS elements than a true RTS.

Two other things though-- Battlefleet Gothic using an improved Homeworld 2 engine and something like the system used in Sins to travel between planets as well as other locations such as the Oort Cloud (relying entirely on shipyards from planets to build new ships of course). And a 40k version of Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, basicaly Epic as an RTS.

Course, simply having a larger scale DoW2 with more factions would also be nice.

A Medieval Kingdom simulator. I want to be able to build a kingdom, from the ground up. Build the fortress, the houses, the farms, all the structures and the walls. Then I want to be able to build towns and villages outside, miles away form my main city, ruled over by a knight and his men. In this world I want lots of creatures, mythical and not, able to be tamed and farmed, attack my villages and towns and be killed by questing knights. I want a multitude of races, form savage orc hordes and goblins, to Dwarves in the mountains, Elves in the forests, Pirates, other human kingdoms, and barbarian kingdoms surrounding, and be able to play as them all in some form. I want different environments and weather conditions, each with their own unique set of animals and resources and advantages/disadvantages to play there. I want a fully functioning economy, with armies draining resources, people setting up businesses, police, income from taxes, the lot. An I want to be able to experience it all in an RTS/Age of Empires view. Basically, it's a mix of Age of Empires RTS view, with the complexity of Dwarf Fortress, a zoom in zoom out ability like Sins of a Solar Empire, with a silly scale.

Mount and Blade on a grander scale. When you recieve a fief, you should have greater control of what you can do there, and you should be able to build it up into a bustling centre of trade, or a daunting impenetrable fortress; you control its sources of food and water and hygiene; you can set up trade routes between your village and a neighbouring village owned by a close ally or a friend, and decide whether or not to guard these routes, and how heavily.

You should also have greater control over your units and their equipment. Currently, you have Infantry, Archers, and Cavalry units, but in infantry you have units that fight with pikes and spears, units that fight with two-handed weapons, and units that fight with a one-handed weapon and a shield. Archers units vary between thrown weapons, bows and crossbows. Cavalry vary between horse archers, mounted throwing weapons, lancers and just regular horsemen.

Lumping them all together for simplicity's sake is all well and good, but what if i'm facing a cavalry charge? I want my pikes ahead of my other infantry, and I want my horse archers to ring the enemy whilst my lancers strike from the sides. I want thrown weapons closer, and bows and crossbows posted on hills, but I can't do that, either they all go, or none of them go, which means I take unnecessary casualties.

I want to be able to group my units into Spears, Horse Archers and Crossbows etc. etc. and I want more in-depth strategies. Medieval 2 gave Horse Archers the option of simply running around units and firing arrows into them; that'd be perfect here. I ight also want my horsemen to penetrate deep into an infantry block, but i'd need a lance formation. I want my spears to form a bristling wall of steel in the face of a cavalry charge, or to turtle up if they're surrounded.

Outside of that, I want to be able to befriend my troops in camp, maybe invite some of the better fighters to be my own honour guard, following me into towns and cities and charged to place their own lives before mine. I want the option of driving fear into the hearts of my enemies using executions and sending them the heads of their comrades; I want to drive my people into a frenzy by executing enemy troops in my towns and cities; and I want my own troops to know where they stand, by executing anyone who steps out of line in front of their former comrades.

I want the ability to take new land as my own and construct watch towers and forward bases; I want to be able to construct nigh unreachable fortresses in the peaks of mountains, and hidden bases in their deep valleys.

I want to be able to customise my attire, my plate armour does not bear my heraldry, and so it must; my blade is not fit for a Lord of my stature, and so I order one to be hand crafted by the best smith around to my specifications; I wish for the greatest warhorse for leagues around, and custom-made barding for it, or maybe I wish to instead ride a chariot into battle. I wish to name by weapons and my mounts, and to take spouses who shall bear me children who may grow to become great warriors themselves, leading the kingdom's armies when I am gone. Or to be captured and ransomed, or butchered before my eyes after a crushing defeat.

I want a whole mess of things I can delve deeper into, or I can just stop here and let my excitement fade as I realise that what I want is far, far too complex to ever work.

Err, you realize you can create your own custom groups to command in MnB, right?

So you can toss your spearmen in a custom group while your other infantry is under Infantry.

How and does it work in Warband?

It's in the party menu (any time you can access the party menu on the world map or in a town). I don't have any of the MnBs installed right now, sadly, but I know it's there, at least for Warband and WFaS.

Found it; odd, i'm sure i've clicked the unit type before and nothing happened... maybe I just assumed it simply showed what type it belonged to. Either way, it wasn't very well advertised. Thanks.
