Been kicking around the idea of doing up a table as the shoulders of a titan for a while, but a friend that I've been talking to doesn't think a titan would be large enough. So I figured there was only one way to settle this. What does dakka think?

I'm just talkin' about Megaweapon.

Well, a warlord class titan is supposed to be @60 meters tall, that would be roughly 2 feet tall in 40k Scale. So, at roughly 30 meters per foot, the 150 meter tall Imperator should be @5 feet tall and nearly as wide so yeah it is feasable.. go for it.

Imperator class Titans are massive

I'd say go for it if you like.

You could always leave a dropoff to a lower level at the edges, like the top of its head, roofs of weapon batteries and the top edge of it's guns.

It would certainly be an epic place to fight across..

That would be an awesome battleground. You could make the objectives be guns and whatnot, and a entrance to the head could be a objective too!

This could be good...

Somewhere in warp space

It would be quite an interesting battlefield to fight on, but it logicaly doesn't make sense.

Vehicles - Can't get up there
Outflanking - Um... Not possible
The Mechanicus Letting Xenos/Chaos get onto the top of an Imperator Titan - NO! They wouldn't let it happen.

Would still be a cool board though, even if it doesn't make sense.

I believe there are example of such fights in both books and video game versions of 40k.... usually over a fallen titan.

I know Winter Assault (DOW) fights for the remains of a downed/buried Titan. But definately an awesome idea.

I swear, there's one of these every second week:

Imperator Titans aren't 150 meters high!

They're around 55 meters tall. At least Dies Irae, a Chaos Imperator during the Heresy, was.

which would make them smaller than the listed height for a Warlord titan. And it would be difficult to fit an entire guard company in its legs.

Logical or not, the official height of an Emporer is aproximately 50 metres. Dies Irae was just 43 metres, while Warlords are about 30 metres. Titans aren't nearly as big as people seem to think.

According to Warhammer 40k Wiki:

"These Titans can stand up to 150 meters (approximately 400 feet) tall"

Just saying, unless someone can get me the book and page number where it says otherwise, I trust it.

If you're gonna use a wikia, at least use a proper one that actually lists the sources at the relevant places. Furthermore, according to Imperial Armour, Reavers are 20 meters tall. By comparing that size to the relative sizes of titans on the Emperor Titan datasheet we can't come to any conclusion other than 55 meters being waaaaaay more accurate than 150.

Thanks, I misremembered the height of Dies Irae. It was indeed 43 meters high.

Vehicles are a problem, but I figure some sacrifices must be made for awesomeness. As for the other points, I was inspired by the novel Helsreach (good read) which has orks boarding an Imperator both by just climbing up the sides and by using the titan's own weapons as boarding planks after they're used to impale a gargant.

Ascalam: I like the multi-tiered idea. I may need to think about working that out somehow.

forruner_mercy: That's exactly what I was thinking for objectives.

Thanks for the input all around. I'm sorry for inadvertently sparking the old titan height debate again. I shall seek the Emperor's guidance on the proper acts of penance I can perform.

So, we have 2 kind of people about this idear:

"That is not possible, that is silly, not big enough,... blablabla"

and

"AWESOME IDEAR!"

I'm in the "awesome" group. It would be a great battle ground. Unique. I would love to participate in that. Chaos Drop pod falling on the shoulder of a Titan. Elite squad of terminator trying to get the "Head" of the titan...

Epic

It is too late for forgiveness, too late for penance. There can be only one solution:

ok.. using your reference then...
First off they suffer from bad math skills... 55.5 meters is @182 feet not 166ft as stated, and 43 meters is just over 141 feet not 130ft as stated.
Given these rather large errors I find their estimates to be questionable.
Second, again from your source.... The reaver is listed as being 22.3 meters (just over 73 feet) tall. if the data sheet shows a comparrison to the reaver, and the imperator is 4x the size of same, that makes the imperator @89.2 meters (292.65 feet) tall, not the stated 50.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Reaver_Titan
Your source also states that the FW model stands 400 mm tall which they calculate to equal @26 meters/@85 feet. this would make an imperator model roughly 1600mm or 5.25 Feet tall, with an estimated actual height of 104 meters/@341feet.

I think, given the Model height of 5.25 feet, that the dimentions of the fortress atop one could be estimated to fit nicely into a 4x6 tabletop.

Basing the heights off of the non-scale models is kinda silly, don't you think?

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2440056_Imperial_Datasheet_-_Emperor_Battle_Titan.pdf

There. Around 3½ Warhound in height (without counting the spires). According to Imperial Armour 3, a Warhound is 14 meters at rest. 14*3½=49. As such, the 100+ meter measurement has even less ground to stand on.

Agreed on the maths part though, that's a bit silly.

In the long run, I think it would be just cool, no matter if it is possible or not.
And either way, 50 meters is still quite tall. I would not like it if a 160 foot walking fortress started to shoot at me.
150 meters is just ridiculous.
