so i am thinking of trying to run a list with chaos space marines that is basicaly just shooting templates and a bit of assualt

i am looking for suggestions on this list

about a thousand points

with 2-3 basic units with flamers in rhinos with extra armor
lord in rhino with some chosen that ride in and assasinate things with outflanking
a unit of havocs with 3 rocket launchers and a lascannon

and a deamon prince

have yet to figure out actual point cost but would like suggestions/ideas/comments please

Well, the chosen can't outflank if the Lord joins them, first of all. Other than that, it seems like a fairly solid base for a list, although I would lose the lascannon on the havocs and just get a 4th ML, the lascannon is too expensive. I'd say switch some of those flamers over to meltas as well, just in case you fight someone with AV14.

Here's an example 1k list with your basic specifications that should be fairly balanced for normal games:

Lord with dual lightning claws - 120

Daemon Prince with Wings and Warptime - 155

5x Chosen with 3x meltaguns and 2x flamers, Rhino - 165

9x CSM with 1x flamer (Lord goes here), Rhino - 185

10x CSM with 2x meltaguns, Rhino - 215

5x Havocs with 4x missile launchers - 155

Total - 995

Now, this isn't the best list in the world, but based off of what you said it should be a decent start and certainly can win games. I didn't include the extra armor because really, it is too expensive, especially at this point level. The Lord I would also consider dropping, as he really doesn't do much and again is expensive. One Daemon Prince and 3 Rhinos gives you some decent target saturation for 1k points, forcing your opponent to pick which heavy weapons to use on which of your units.

Edit: I'm sure people will be along to parrot the whole "LASH PRINCES, PLAGUE MARINES, OBLITERATORS OR IT SUCKS!" thing. Really, that is the most competetive build, but it doesn't sound like you're going to any major tournaments or anything like that, so the kind of list you're talking about should be just fine.

so what would be a more competetive list for 1000pts?

Well, how competetive are we talking? If you want something that is the most competetive (which really doesn't fare all that well against some of the other power builds), we'd be looking at something like:

Daemon Prince w/Wings, MoS, Lash of Submission

5x Plague Marines, 2x plasmaguns, Rhino

5x Plague Marines, 2x meltaguns, Rhino

5x Plague Marines, 2x meltaguns, Rhino

2x Obliterators

2x Obliterators

That comes out to 975, with room to add a couple small things.

Now, if you were thinking more competetive than the first list I posted, but still keeping to your general theme, I'd try something like this:

Daemon Prince w/Wings, Warptime

5x Chosen, 2x flamer, 3x meltagun, Rhino

9x CSM, 2x meltaguns, 1 Aspiring Champion w/combi-melta, power fist, Rhino

9x CSM, 2x flamers, 1 Aspiring Champion w/combi-flamer, power weapon, Rhino

5x Havocs, 4x missile launchers

Comes out to 965, room for a few upgrades

Now, the first list would certainly be more competetive, but not by a huge amount. This second list is a good TAC army, able to reasonably handle most opponents. More importantly, the second list fits your original vision for the army. If you're playing CSM, you are already a bit behind on the competetive curve, so do something you enjoy. The second list I posted here isn't going to win a GT, but you should be able to do well in your local tournaments. If winning is all you care about, then Lash/PMs/Oblits all the way.

I would go with the DP with Lash, but I am going to make a Slaanesh themed army, which fits better.
