I am surrounded by people that are not in to the hobby at all, and HAVE TO shout out that I'm at serious risk of starting up a marines force led by the GD Boarding Captain and kitted out with Contemptors. Damn sexy ass models.

So yes, thank you Dakka for being an outlet for my wargaming ramblings

Do you have people to play?

Also, good for you for developing a hobby you enjoy. Whether Space Marines, Chaos, Tau, or Eldar, if you like them, build them.

No mate, not a single person. I'm considering getting dreadfleet just to get my woman to play with me, as it's more of a board game than the rest so she may take to it.. £70 just to have someone to play with! I must be mad!

Though I do have a friend that's interested in looking at the hobby, I have my doubts that he'll actually go for it or have any long term involvement, he's not really one for... (how do I put it with out sounding like a dick?) escapism? Fiction? Know what I mean though? Rates my painting though, so that's part of the battle.

Lack of folk to talk to / game with in the real world is also why I spend every night on Dakka lol

Must be fellow gamers in Leeds, there's a GW and a regular gaming shop (Travelling Man?)

Oh yeah, absolutely, there's plenty around me, I just have yet to go and get involved (cash constraints, wanting to have a force built up so I can jump straight to gaming, planning the wedding, blah blah blah).

My local store's in Wakefield, there seem to be some good people there, but I don't get much chance to go in

I did ZERO gaming during my wedding planning.

It was just easier that way. I have ample gaming time since to do what I do.

FIND some fellow gamers first, would be my first step - even before building an army.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

A lot of the guys I've seen are happy in their circles, seem to be a bit closed down, so I'm trying to bring friends in to the hobby.

Will be checking out one of the local gaming halls at some point too

Oddly Forgeworld are a good way to ease yourself into the game, particularly for smaller Marine armies (say up to 1,000 points).

Buy something each month, take your time modelling and painting it. Even bigger purchases (like the Landraider Proteus) can be assigned a 'two month budget'. Being a biggger, and one would assume (possibly incorrectly) more complex model, as a project it could easily take a couple of months to get it looking really bang on.

This is what I fancy doing anyway, with an eye to assembling an entry for next year's Armies On Parade. Small, all pre-Heresy force.

I caved... Marines win. What a shame! Lol. Now to pick a chapter / colour scheme...

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
