I'm new to FOW and just traded for the main rulebook and Blitzkrieg book. I also got some models in the trade. I'm thinking of making a Fallschirmjager or Grenadier force but was curious what I received in the trade so I could add to it. Can anyone identify these guys?

Right now they all appear to be based in some kind of putty but it's flexible so I'll be pulling them out of the goop to clean them off.

Thank you!

They're early or mid war German grenadiers or some derivative thereof (German helmet and long jack boots are the clues). The base with three models on it is the platoon command and the base with two men on it is an anti-tank rifle of some description, probably a Panzerbüchse 39.

The models are Battlefront (round thick bases on the models and big heads) but I'm not sure of the exact type without further checking.

Given the presence of the two man light mortar team, I'm confident that this is an Early War German Schutzen platoon - GE 752. IIRC, that's currently the only blister that they sell that includes the two man light mortar team. The anti-tank rifle team is also present in that unit, which explains its presence. The unit can be found as the core of a Schutzenkompanie in the Early Book book Blitzkrieg, which covers the invasions of Poland and France - though there's nothing keeping you from removing the mortar and ATR and using the rest of the teams as a regular Grenadier platoon in any time period.

I don't know about the Mini's, but It looks like they are based on "Weetabix Gruel".

Everyone in the UK knows Weetabix. If we ever run out of asphalt, we will re-lay roads with this stuff, easy to use, sets like concrete, and it also keeps you as regular as a Kennedy funeral.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

I recognise some of the models from my FJ, but I think its just because some models are used in just about every infantry box.

The anti-tank rifle means it is probably an EW set, but the regular infantry can be used for just about whatever.

It's a nice thing with BFs models, the infantry can basically be any infantry force you want. The only obvious things are Panzershreks, Fausts, and SMGs so anything that uses those can be represented.

if you paint these guys up appropriatly they can be anything you want. The anti-tank rifle will be only usable in EW(at least by FJ and Grenadiers)

As for which you should go for(FJ or Grenadiers) you should decide if you want to go footsloggin infantry or you would like Mechanized Infantry. Grenadiers can do both, FJ are almost exclusivly a footslogging force. Both can get good support.

I play FJ so I'll give you a run down. I reccomend the Hells highway book for FJ. It has some nice bonuses over Fortress Europe which is more generic, although you can't run Tiger tanks as support in HH

FJ are purely footsloggers with no options for transports like Halftracks. This isn't a huge deal as transports are often literal deathtraps.

FJ are a very elite army. They are always Fearless and most often Veteran with some companies being Trained.

Individually, they are well armed being Rifle/MG stands. Command teams have options for Panzerfausts and Panzernackers. In Hells Highway every stand in the platoon can get a Panzerfaust. FJ are deadly against tanks in this fashion. Their commanders can also often get Panzershreck sections to attach out to their combat platoons, 3 total as opposed to only 1 in FE.

They can also purchase 8cm mortars to hand out to their platoons for some versitility.

FJ can also get their own AA and AT guns, as well as Artillery, that is crewed by FJ. Artillery is often from a different company and has a different skill and motivation rating, FJ equipment is the same rating as the FJ themselves which helps with motivation and skill tests.

As for tank support, they can get StuGs crewed by FJ or support tanks from other companies. It is a good combined arms approach that I think is superior to what happens with Tank Companies that are supported by infantry. Infantry supported by Tanks is a little better IMO.

There's a light mortar in GE703 PanzerGrenadier Platoon (Mid-War) as well

That doesn't have the ATR, though. And the only ATR that isn't in a platoon blister is the DAK (which these aren't).

None of those models are FJ; they're just in the same poses.

It would help if we had side shots of these guys, they are a little blurry.

Correct about the ATR.

Just saying your initial response was that the Light Mortar team was exclusive to GE752, so I was pointing out that GE703 also had one...

I've already identified them above. It's Battlefront's EW Schutzen Platoon - GE 752.
