Yeah, so as you can guess from my nick, I'm a CSM player, yet things didn't turn out as I though they would, and Know I'm thinking about moving forward to something that fits me better. So here's the things that I like in an army:

1-Big scary looks. In w40k, the only armies that I dont like the look are the IG, Tau and Tyranids.

2- I like units that can take damage and still keep going.

3- I tend to prefer close combat, but not to the point of being completly useless in ranged.

4- I prefer medium units to small or large ones.

5-I really hate units that always have to rely on transport vehicule to survive (because then you have to pay for the soldiers, then for the vehicule)

6- I don't have a large amount of cash (damn university cost so much in time and money! I need money to go to university, but I need time to work to earn money, but I also need time to studie. God Bless banks, without mine I couldn't even dream to study without the cash I was forced to ask them).

7-I like HQ choice that can survive well and deal a good amount of damage.

8-I like armies that have a good LD.

9- I like army that offer lot of choices when making a list. And by choices, I mean good ones. I don't like it when there's only 10% of the codex that lead to a good army, and the rest is only good in non-competitive.

So what army do you think fit my preferences?

GK? They kinda seems overpowered a bit to much for me to be honest. I could not stand to play such an over-favored faction. Maybe Space marines. I don't really know much about the loyalist counterparts of the CSM . Gonna check a bit of articles about them.

I was thinking Chaos Daemons.

No transports.

Squad sizes vary depending on the unit, some low - elites, usually - some medium - troops, usually - and I dunno if any get really high unless you want daemonette hordes - and then, they're REALLY high in a drug-taking sort of way. Damned Slaaneshi drug habits....

Leadership? Feh! Everything - well, everything with the Daemon rule - is fearless IIRC. Basic troops are Ld10 IIRC.

There are quite a few choices, and lots of stuff to work with. ^_^

HQ choices tend to be powerful, though greater daemons can be expensive.

They've got great close combat choices, and a few good to great shooting choices.

Nurgle units tend to be really tough.

What's scarier than daemons?

GK really aren't overpowered. They have some tools that work very well against specific targets but die just the same as Marines so they're not unbeatable. Read up on loyalist Marines, but I warn you it may be a bit samey.

If, when you say 'things didn't turn out' as you thought they would, you mean 'I keep losing', then changing armies isn't going to magically solve this problem. New players lose games, that's just how it is because there is lots of strategy and tactics involved.

If this is the case, I'd stick with the CSMs and just buy a few rhinos instead of purchasing a whole new army. They have builds which don't require huge amounts of transports. And I assure you, in spite of all the internet whinging, CSMs can still win any given game against any given codex. They are very slightly overcosted against 5th edition codices, that is all.

If that is not your issue, then there are two points that stand out to me.

(1) You don't want to rely on transports and (2) you don't want to spend heaps.

You should play a -wing style army. Draigowing, Loganwing, Deathwing. Or wait for Necrons to arrive.

Ummm...somewhere...

Space Marines or Daemons, I would say daemons thought with the whole HQ damage output, resilient medium sized squads and no transports, plus you can have lots of big things as well and it does go nicely along with your CSM

Like Pouncey a few posts earlier, IMHO Chaos Daemons would be the best choice to your preferences, for the same points that he made. By big, scary looks do you mean evil, sinister and disturbingly themed? Yay for Chaos. It will also compliment your CSM force for a unified theme, aesthetic or for Apocalypse games.
