Ok, crazy list time.

Ragnar Blackmane 240
Wolf Guard Battle Leader PF, SS, WTN 135
Wolf Guard Battle Leader PF, SS, WTN, WTT 140
Wolf Guard Battle Leader WC, SS, WTN 130

4 Wolf Guard, 2 PF, 2 PW 132
LRR, MM (DT) 250

10 Grey Hunters 2 Melta, Wulfen, Standard 180
10 Grey Hunters 2 Melta, Wulfen, Standard 180
10 Grey Hunters 2 Melta, Wulfen, Standard 180
10 Grey Hunters 2 Melta, Wulfen, Standard 180

LRR, MM 250
LRR, MM 250
LRR, MM 250

Total: 2497

So...does this list work at all? I only have 8 meltaguns, 4 Multimeltas, 4 AC, and 4 powerfists. I don't think it will work very well, but it might be a blast to play.

It works if your opponent can't stop the LR rush. You are really hoping with this list to avoid GK, IG, and DE. GK because you have no Psyker defense and they will therefore pwn you in CC and DE because they can move faster than you and spend all game trying to DL your LRs to death. Against IG if you get first turn and your opponents S10 templates all scatter or fail to penetrate then you'll have a fighting chance. But when your list is hoping to avoid 3 of the top 4 codices it probably won't work too well.

Thanks. That's the kind of analysis I was looking for.

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

I hate this thread and its heavy use of acronyms.
I would say though, get rid of a land raider and give your grey hunters rhinos or drop pods.
And trade out the middle Wolf Guard battle leader for a Rune Priest

And that was not. Not sure what your problem with acronyms is.

I can appreciate that Rune Priests are pretty fantastic, but they are weak in CC, which is pretty much the only thing that this army does.

It's just annoying when almost entire conversations are held in acronym form.
That's all.

You need some range though, otherwise everything will be dead before it can get into close combat.

Sorry. I try to only use them when they are either extremely common or when Dakka helpfully tells you what they are.

As far as range, my army will be at midfield first turn. If I go first, then I can move 12 towards wherever my opponent is set up. If they are smart, they are as far away from me as possible. If not, then they are right across from me, and I will be in assault range (even if my vehicles get blown up) second turn. This will also put my melta guns in range 90% of the time.

If I go second, I just deploy as close to my opponent as possible and weather the alpha strike as best as possible. Then I move forwards and will get up to my opponent without too much trouble.

With that said, I realize that four Land Raiders are hardly invulnerable, and will do my best to find cover for them, but they're pretty big. I know that anti-tank and range are the biggest flaws of this army, but I'm looking for ideas as to whether or not I can win against anything. As Overwatch said, I will struggle against three very highly competitive armies. I'm sure there are others. The possibility though of getting upwards of 50 attacks from one unit of Grey Hunters because of Blackmane's abilities is pretty tempting, though. Especially if I can assault a big power blob or unit of boyz with more than one unit of Hunters...

At the end of the day, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I'm just hoping to get some constructive, in-depth feedback about who it will or won't work against.

I like this army. It's straight forward, it fits the main character's style of warfare (In your face style!) and has potential.

As far as the units are concerned, here's the only two changes I would make:

1 Runepriest, Terminator armor, Saga of the Beastslayer, WTN (140) - Replace WGBL#2. This way you gain psychic defense, psychic shielding (using tempest wrath IRC) and something to Instagib T6 6W MC (either JOWW or Force weapon).

1 Wolf priest, WTN, runic armour (130) - Replace WGBL#3. Fearless wolves, LD10 Counter Attack, Prefered Enemy on the charge... a little extra boost for one of the Squad.

My two cents!

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

Nice Changes. I would even suggest replacing the last WGBL with another WP. Ragnar, and his buffs, are great on their own and the WGBL don't add as much to a unit as the WP does.

While I do have reservations about adding any models in Terminator armor to this list (reduced carrying capacity, unable to pursue) the psychic defense would probably be helpful...I may try just Runic armor...hmm...

I think I will definitely drop the wolf claw WGBL for a WP. I'm reluctant to drop the other power fist, though. This may give me some added versatility.

Thanks!
