This is my Tau list, mostly for fun but still as competitive as I can afford to be. The theme is based around Fireknives with a specialized Team Leader used to push ahead and destroy enemy units while Fire warriors hold objectives. It has lots of support from pathfinders and broadsides. Concerns- -Thinking about reworking the loadout of the HQ to 'O and change the array to a sheild gen. This is mostly because I want him to be a tank-like guy and for the extra Ld. -Should I replace all the squad leader weapons with Flamers? If I do should I put the points towards the HQ? HQ Shas'el -Plasma Rifle -AFP -Targeting Array -HW Drone controller --2x Sheild drones -Stim injector -HW Multitracker Elite Crisis Team 1 3 Shas'ui -Plasma riflesx3 -Missle podsx3 -Team Leader --Flamer --Bonding Knife -Multitrackers (Team Lead=HW) Crisis Team 2 3 Shas'ui -Plasma riflesx3 -Missle podsx3 -Team Leader --Fusion Blaster --Bonding Knife -Multitrackers (Team Lead=HW) Crisis Team 3 3 Shas'ui -Plasma riflesx3 -Missle podsx3 -Team Leader --Fusion Blaster --Bonding Knife -Multitrackers (Team Lead=HW) Troops -12 FW Pulse rifles -Shas'ui --Bonding knife -D-Fish --Disruption Pod -12 FW Pulse rifles -Shas'ui --Bonding knife -D-Fish --Disruption Pod -20 Kroot --Shaper -9 Kroot hounds Fast Attack -8 Pathfinders -Shas'ui --Bonding Knife -3x Snipers -D-fish --Disruption Pod -2 Pirhanas -2x Disruption Pods -1 Fusion Blaster -1 Targeting Array -2 Pirhanas -2x Disruption Pods -1 Fusion Blaster -1 Targeting Array Heavy Support -Hammerhead -Railgun -Burst cannons -Disruption Pod -Multitracker -2x Broadsides -Advanced Stabilization Systems -Team leader --HW Target Lock --2x Sheild drones --Bonding knife -2x Broadsides -Advanced Stabilization Systems -Team leader --HW Target Lock --2x Sheild drones --Bonding knife TOTAL=2500 POINTS C&C much appreciated, especially about the concerns.

my rule on big fire warrior squads tends to be keep them at 12 with little else only if your going to fish them to do the Little fish of fury otherwise divide them up and have some small fire support teams.
I know theres alot of different thoughts on kroot and the uses I prefer the cheap hounds smaller squads they are going to die so why spend more on them than a 6 man fire warrior team wich may actually fire more than once before dying and save you some points in the process.
consider droping the piranhas to no more than three and move some points to the suits for shield drones or get more broadsides in the squads.
with all the fire knives the fusion blasters are a waste if you do your target priority correct between 5 rails and three teams with some missle pods on top of pirahans its alot of anti MEQ and tank at ranged so the FB are not really neccessary as your rail guns and piranha will bring melta straight to the on coming tanks
everything else looks ok for what your wanting

I like larger kroot squads because they really aren't durable (T3 and no save, plus I3 Means many things will beat them down before they can hit back.) I agree with you about the fusion blasters, maybe change them to flamers all around?
I think I'll take out 2 Piranhas and change FB's to flamers, and invest in sheild drones and kroot. Thoughts?

I'd split 'em into a pair and trio. Splitting your fire, good for you, and making the enemy split his. Bad for him.
yamgrenade wrote:- Thinking of making 2 ten man squads for FW.
Go 9 if you're going to hardly use 'em. Why 9 instead of 10? It still takes three casualties to cause a Morale Check, whether 9, 10, 11 or 12 FWs. So you may as well save a few points for maybe a Target Lock for a Railhead (use those BCs).
If you're of mind to try FoF, then the whole dozen.
yamgrenade wrote:- Need some advice on streamlining kroot squads.
Either speed bumps, or the whole hog, like you listed. Just what you wanna choose. But I'd throw in a Shaper for the Ld boost with such a large crew.
yamgrenade wrote:- Need advice on what to get if I chop down some FW or Piranhas.
Again, not chop. Split.
Oh, and a BK for the XV88s. Surely, a BK's cost is worth rallying a surviving Broadside.

drop the trid gun all together and save some points the deal with the flammer is that its a 12 in weapon once you can use it then next turn your dead if theres anything left theywill be able to assault you. Id recomend saving the points and moving them elsewere maybemore FB on the pirahna instead

One thing I remember... You hate kroot... Why take an additional 9 +4 hounds. Also, If you're taking kroot, why no shaper. I havn't read the dex for a while, but don't shapers improve your kroot in some way? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, your crisis teams seem a little repetitive. Is this the best loadout you have found amongst them, or do they just feel more multi-(tracker )Purpose?

Great list, I'm a semi-competitive, semi-fun kind of Tau player too. I think you should take some body guards with your commander. Just saying you might get a lot more action out of him if not a good amount of kills with a full squad. I usually stick with full crisis squads because I don't really want to risk them getting lost right off the bat. But I like how many piranhas you have!! You should deff try to split them with at least one fusion blaster in each squad. Also, why 19 kroot instead of 20? just wondering lol. Its good that you don't have a krootox with you so you can infiltrate those guys. But overall I like the list!

Is this the best loadout you have found amongst them, or do they just feel more multi-(tracker )Purpose? I don't like kroot very much, but I do now realize that they can be useful. I'm on the fence about a shaper, because while he does give your kroot a 6+ save (If I take him I don't know if I will even do this because of the extra cost) he costs as much as 4 kroot, and is math-hammeraly as good as three. Hounds are there to strike first at I5 and fill in some points. I also used a repetitive crisis suit loadout because this is my favorite, is widely considered the best (I will never take you, deathrain/firestorm!) and Repetition works well in Tau armies. I'm gonna put the commander in with a crisis suit team (probably) so he gives them his drones and Ld. I'm gonna split the piranhas as well. the 19 kroot are because of points. Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll probably get around to a new list today, as I sit here sick.
