Do I have to get a special kind of paint that's "primer paint" or can I just use my normal chaos black paint to prime my models???

You don't "have to", but you you should. If anything primer costs far less money for the amount of models you can prime. You can get a whole can of spray primer for the cost of two bottles of paint.

It's always worth it to prime before painting. Helps to ensure that your paint will adhere better, rather than chipping off sometime shortly afterwards (be it plastic, resin, or metal).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

It's worth knowing that "primer" and paint are two different formulations.

Primer is designed to be a good surface for paint to adhere to - as it etches itself into the surface in order to do this.

Regular sprays just sit on the surface.

GW sprays (regardless of what some feckless redshirt told you) are JUST spraypaints, NOT primers.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Vallejo Polyurethane Acrylic Primers - they can be applied by brush or airbrush and give a fantastic base for your paintjob.

As always, enjoy and have fun!

Thank you, that's what I wanted to know.

Have a look at Army Painters coloured primers, a bit more coin but totally worth it if you can find one in the colour you wanted to base all your models in, that way you prime and have your base done in one simple step and a fraction of the time!

their website has tonnes of pics which are very accurate and helpful in deciding what colour you want. I use them a lot.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
