I generally use a blue, but I think anything that would indicate something really hot and dangerous would work. Also given what plasma is, it's going to give you different colors depending on what is in the reactor. So it really could be whatever you want.

I prefer to make it seem more like melting metal, i.e. from a very dark red to white or a very, very light blue.

Much like I prefer using lava effects on power weapons.

Have a nice day.

Well, the norm seems to be blue. But if you follow video games, it would seem that most Imperial armies use blue, while Chaos uses a reddish-purple. I guess the same reddish-purple could work for pre-heresy if you like.

Most I've seen have been blue.

But GW has also used Green, red and purple in the past

I reckon you should paint it depending on what colours you used on your model. I personally use purple for my plasmas.

From a painting standpoint, you could use the plasma color to set a nice contrast for your mini. Maybe green if the basecoat is red, or red for a blue basecoat?

Other than that, go nuts :-). In a universe where undead robots roam dead planets and giant space-bugs eat entire solar systems, who is to say what Marines put into their weapons to purge the xenos ;-).

I have always imagined plasma as blue. I basecoat in a dark blue, then extremely lightly dry brush in Ice Blue, and then use skull white on the corners.

Depends on the colour of your mini,

Plasma can be a wide range of colours, the sun is orange and its a giantball of burning plasma

I quite like a very very light purple almost white, looks like pure energy or something.

If I had to choose between green and blue I'd go for a white blue

Depends on the army colors.

My Word Bearers= Green

IG=Purple

Basically something that contrasts with the main colors so they stand out.

I used to use green (cos that's how GW painted them in the RT days) but these days I either use blue (for "charging/in use") or copper with a brown ink glaze, for "not charging".

A real world example of plasma is the inner chamber of a tokamak nuclear fusion reactor:

As you can see, clearly purpley-pink. But this won't go with most armies, and those guardsmen that were posted are an amazing of example of where the purple *would* work in an army.

I myself do it orange moving up to a bright yellow/white, almost like a really hot piece of metal. I figure that that's what those coils really are; that is, cooling coils, so that even though there'd be superhot plasma coursing through them and coming out of the gun's muzzle, the pipes themselves would just glow from the heat like any heated metal would.

Example:

Take it as you want, that's just my train of thinking
