We have a small group of people at work that play once a week and a few are considered veterans. Every time we play dawn of war scenario we have played (and the vets insist) that after turn 1 all units roll to see if they come into play as if held in reserve.

However recently during a discussion in the General section of the Forum, someone responded that don't have to roll to see if they come in on turn 2, they just do unless its deepstrike.

Is this true? Can someone run down how the game scenario is supposed to played/set up?

I suck at playing, but I dig the painting!

In Dawn of War, your reserves come in on turn 2, as described by the mission.

Your "veterans" are wrong.

You have to specify whether the units not deployed are being kept in Reserve or not.

Any units kept in Reserve you roll for as normal.
Any units not kept in Reserve will simply move on in turn 1.

This is all laid out in the DoW rules.

In Dawn of War, units can be placed in 3 states:

1) Deployed on the board (restricted to a max of 2 Troop units and 1 HQ unit)

2) Placed in reserves (roll for them starting on turn 2, as normal)

3) Neither deployed nor reserved. These come onto the board (not deep striking or outflanking) automatically at the start of your first turn.

It's up to the player to decide which category each unit will go in. You can certainly reserve your army and roll as normal if you want. But, you can have everything come on at the start of turn 2.

(All normal restrictions, like playing Daemons, Drop Pod Assaults, etc apply)

No they don't.

Reserves follow the Reserves rules. Everyone else comes on in turn 1.

After both sides have deployed up to 1 hq and 2 troops, the game begins. The 1st player may bring in the rest of his army on the first turn. walking, flying, or driving on from the table edge. The 2nd player does the same in their turn. If you decide to keep units in reserve, thats fine. You start rolling for them as you would in a standard game, in the 2nd turn.

Ugh. Brainfart.

Sorry for the confusion.
