1,500 point tournament
4 games
Date:
Admission price: $15
Positions: 8-10.

Preface:
This is a Warhammer 40,000 tournament. It will be held at the Kenmore south state school hall, hopefully. This tournament will not be for those looking to just throw models into the pit. Your skills will be tested, and you will face opponents who want to win.

For this reason, this tournament is going to be WYSYWYG, it will also no require painted models.

While there won’t be real prizes, the money will be put towards the rent of the hall, and for the services provided.

Basic rules:
- Warhammer 40,000 rules will all apply.
- No Forgeworld rules
- Codex and FAQ must be brought
- Dice, tape measure and templates must be brought
- There will be a rules referee.
- At least 90% of your army must be WYSIWYG.
- Painting will not be required

Sportsmanship rules
- No obscene language outside of the normal scope of the game
- Do not raise your voice
- Do not waste time
- Do not rush an opponent, but offer assistance when possible.
- There will be cards to rate sportsmanship. These will be moderated by judges.
Gamers’ etiquette
- Please wash
- Please wear deodourant
- Bring all necessary models.
- Attempt to make separate squads distinct

Overall objectives:
Major victory – 4 points
Minor victory – 3 points
Draw – 2 point
Minor loss 1 point
Major loss 0 points

These will change from mission to mission.

- Kill opponents most expensive unit:
o 2 points
- Kill more than 50% of opponents points
o 1 point
- Obliterate your opponent
o 2 points [+ points for killing the most expensive unit]
- Have more than half your scoring units still standing
o 1 point
- Kill anything with AV14 on all sides
o 1 point
- Lose anything with AV14 on all sides
o -1 point
- Your most expensive unit is still standing
o 1 point

Kill points will never be used in this campaign.

Instead, at the end of the game, tally up the amount of points that have been lost, and divide it by 100. [rounding up]
Every 100 points or part of 100 is worth 1 victory point

For the situation where squads where models are still standing but the squad has been depleted: take the total value of the squad, and divide it by the number of men in the squad at the start of the game.

Example: a 10-man tactical marine squad with a plasma gun and a heavy bolter is worth 180 points.
Since there are 10 men in the squad, the each member is worth 18 points.

If 7 members are killed, the squad is worth 126 points for the sake of this points resolution. Notice that this applies even if all seven members only had boltguns this makes a difference of 14 points.

Thus, the man with the plasma gun is still only worth 18 points

eeeeeeeeeeh... this reeks of 3rd edition missions which equate to 12 year olds standing up their models and saying 'lets kill each other!'

There really doesn't seem to be any real tactical point to your scoring and eliminating basically all the rulebook missions IMHO harms the game. Drastically changes who can win as some armies are meant to lose a lot of models but still win by accomplishing mission objectives. If survivability and killing crap is all that matters, don't show up with anything but marines is what you are saying.

I would look into NOVA missions or do straight rulebook missions.

I would call this a COMP event due to the mission objectives. Why?

Why not just say: destroy anything with AV 14 all around as +2? -1 from one player and +1 to the other is the same as +2
Also, Losing your most expensive unit is +2 for your opponent and standing is +1 for you... so that really makes it a 3 point swing and can drastically impact who wins it seems. I can play like crap and lose half my army but if I kill your most expensive unit, I get 3 points basically.

Sounds like I would bring nothing but anti-tank and hope my opponent has land raiders and simply shoot landraiders and your most expensive unit until the end of game because I can get mad points with no effort to even attempt to play 40k. Just pewpewpew. I would also basically expect no one to bring any landraiders or Monoliths period for any reason.

Good luck with the tournament!

You can cut out a lot of that stuff and make it simpler with the same content. Some of the rules like don't curse, don't raise your voice, wash, etc. may not need to be included. Also, saying 90% of the army needs to be WYSIWYG is really vague. The rules: don't waste time and don't rush your opponent are pretty contradictory.

Run with basic book missions your first go around. Makes it nice and simple, reduces confusion and everyone comes knowing what to expect.

Also, you are charging to rent the hall and pay yourselves, but not providing prizes? Your area may be different than ours, but I don't know many people that would want to do that. I would say skip paying yourself and instead offer prizes of some sort.

Thanks for putting together an event! The hobby needs organizers to thrive and grow. Good luck with it.

Yeah, most folks aren't going to show if there's no prize or anything.
8-15 player means there is a good chance of placing, so why not support that with prizes? You don't have to go all out, but something would be cool.
Money goes to "services provided"? I wouldn't let that get out.
I have to agree with using book missions. People know them, and have built their armies for them.
Your point system is ok, but kinda complicated. I don't see a real reason in doing it that way. Looks like a lot of pointless math, when Kill Points do pretty much the same thing.
All in all, good luck man, and I hope it goes well.

Prize support has never been a driver for me. I go to play soldiers and have a good time.

I agree with this, i go to tournaments for competitive play and social stuff, prizes are just bonuses.

You need to sort out the bonus points (remove some/ put a cap/ add secondary objectives/ etc.) cause it's just easier and better to table the opponent.

Remind your players if in doubt/unsure to shout out "judge!!"
