I've been thinking of Halloween costumes as of late, and I've decided I want to be a Medieval Knight. Perhaps something along the lines of Knights Templar, or just one of the crusaders in general. I already have some swords and daggers to take as props(false edged, so no risk of people getting hurt, even though I'm planning on leaving it in the scabbard). I was wondering if anyone would happen to know of any retailers that are located close to Toronto, Ontario, Canada(to save on shipping and get it sooner) that sell chainmail armour?

Thinkgeek will be fine for decoration. If you want something armor grade (You ain't one of them "HIT ME WITH A REAL SWORD, I HAVE CHAINMAIL!" SCA/reenactor/LARP/Something types are ye?) i'd honestly get ready to drop some serious coin, or learn to weave 4 in 1. Then go get some heavy stainless steel coils or rings and start a weavin.

I can buy ballistic body armor cheaper than I can armor grade chain or plate. A lot cheaper.

LARP sites may well be your best bet, I know a couple in the UK that either sell the rings, a basic shirt, or stuff to order, but I am sure the US has equivilents.

As had been said, expect to drop quite a lot of money on it.

You sure you want to spend that much for a halloween outfit? If not, you might be able to find mockmail?

You could make it out of plastic piping. Score along it, cut it into segments and then ring them together. It's how they did the LOTR stuff.

Cheapest route is to buy the rings and make it yourself. I'm nearly finished with my 6 in 1 12 guage stainless steel shirt. It will take you a while to make one (especially 6 in 1 instead of 4 in 1), but a shirt will only run you like 120 ish bucks.

Edit - Well 120 ish USD. http://theringlord.com/

http://www.mailleartisans.org/ is a one stop shop for vendors, techniques, and pretty much anything to do with maille or chain armor.

In the interest of speed and economy, you may wish to avoid this armor type. a pair of elbow cops of shiny steel can be had for about 20 bucks, and a great helm for about 100. That's about half the cost of any maille, and the maille will mostly be under a tabard.

If you're comfortable working with aluminum, an early middle eastern cuirass known as a char-aina is not difficult to make. Basically, its four plates that protect your guts but will look suitably exotic and are even appropriate for most of the Templar orders. Best of all, it can be knocked out with a jigsaw and a bit of sanding in a day. I wouldn't use it if you were planning on being a Black Templar though- they crusaded in northern Europe.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.
