I just got into 40k and have been going over the rulebook and there are still a few things I'm unclear on.
I'm looking for anyone in the area who is willing to show a beginner like me through a couple of starter games to get used to playing.

Anyone in the area at all?

I grew up in CNY. Check out The Comix Zone in North Syracuse. Whenever I am home visiting, that store is hopping with 40k players.

http://www.comixzone.com/ Check out the event calender. I'm sure if you pop on a day when there is Warhammer scheduled, you'll find someone to show you the ropes.

Thanks for the advice. I never thought about trying comic zone.

Play the Game Read The Story in the Carousel Mall is also a great venue.

That's where I originally intended on going to play. I just didn't know if there would be people into the idea of a new comer the ropes.

I'm honestly not sure if Play The Game, Read The Story has much of a community. Last time I was in there (over Christmas break) they'd even stopped stocking paint.

Comix Zone, on the other hand, has a very vibrant community. Enough so that it stocks the best 40k selection I have ever seen in a brick-and-mortar store. I'd go there first! Also, the owner of that shop is awesome, and still recognizes me when I walk in once ever year or so (I was one of his first customers when he opened the shop waaaay back in 1996. )

See I would have never thought Comic Zone had such a thriving 40k community. Whenever I'm in there getting comics there's nothing going on. I'll have to check the event calendar.

Does anyone know much more about Play The Game? Or is it not worth it?

If you're up for a bit of a trek, Albany has a pair of stores- Zombie Planet and Flights of Fantasy- that have some WFB/40k players. I haven't played up there in a few years, but I know the last time I was in town, I stopped by Flights of Fantasy and there were some kids playing 40k, so there's still an active following.

Thanks for the tip but Albany is about a two hour drive from Syracuse. With no car that's basically out of the question.

In syracuse the best venue keep switching from Playthegame to comixzone and back due to the simple reason that the cheating douchebag everyone is avoiding tend to switch shops when the player pool gets low.

If you want help with the game rules talk to Kevin at PlaytheGame he's always willing to shoot the gak and help a new player out.

Gornall is about 30 minutes away from cuse and is a great guy, I would PM him and see if you guys can meet for a friendly game.

I haven't really liked PlayTheGame since they were called "Altered States" and had an awesome shop underneath the Spaghetti Warehouse. They then spent years being dicks to their player base.

I have been playing at play-the-game for years and it has improved a lot over the years. We now average around 25-30 players for most tournaments and usually have a decent turn out for open play during the week.

The reason why they were low on everything over Christmas break was because they were in the process of moving to a larger store in the mall, but they usually have most things in abundance.

I personally don't like comix zone and refuse to play there. The owner is great, most of the players or okay, but not enough people there know the rules and try to cheat. And the guy there that does the tournaments plays favorites.

But jordancw90, if you want I am more than willing to set up a time to play a game and help you learn the rules. Just pm me if your interested.

Yeah.... PM me if you want to set up games during the week or on the weekend. And both stores are great IMO. I slightly prefer PtG just because it has so much room...
