Hello Dakka!

I like Drop pods and the image of Space Marines dropping in the thick of the action to exterminate the Emperor's ennemies. Saddly, fluff and gaming seldom mix well and this is relatively true with Drop Pod armies. Nevertheless, I'm trying to come up with a balanced and efficient list. So, here are the two lists I working on. Any advice would be welcome (but please, I don't want to go the Stelek mass dreadnought list...):

DROP POD ARMY LISTS

HQ

Captain, artificer armor, 2 lightning claws - 145

Command squad, 4 plasmagun, Drop pod - 210

Dreadnought, MM, HF, Drop pod - 150

I prefer the second one as most of the weapons can fire when they come down!

I would drop the GoI for something else IMHO but otherwise its fairly solid

Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.

I'm not sure how much i can help with your lists, as i'm pretty new to the pods myself. I can tell you I've been playing something very similar to your 2nd list, only with 3 dreds and 2 tac squads. I usually send two dreds right into the mix and a tac squad with libby into the mid. The 2nd dred is there to backup where needed and the 2nd tac squad i usually send near an objective. It's pretty dicey with those first 2 dreds. if they whiff the 1 melta shot they put out, they're usually toast pretty fast. one thing that works well for me is the libby gating around with his tac squad, using the locators to get where they need to be. this tactic works especially well with sterngaurd. gating them outta combat and back into shooting at stuff is pretty nifty.
good luck with your pods, dude.

Hi, thanks for your feedback everyone!

Sparky, that Gate trick was exactly what I had in mind too! Didn't know I could use that when locked into combat though, that's pretty smart. I agree Sternguards would be quite good, but at this point level, they would eat too much of my point allowance and force me to either drop the dreadnoughts or the Terminators.

I must admit though, since I usually play with Sternguards in my other list, I kinda of miss them and their firepower. Do you think dropping (pun intended) one Tactical squad for a small Sternguard squad would be worth it? I'd need to switch the libby for a MoF to keep everything else the same though...

Edit: something like that

HQ

Master of the Forge - 100

Elite

6-man Sternguard Squad, 5 combi-meltas, 1 heavy flamer, Drop pod - 220

10 Assault terminators, TH/SS - 400

Troops

10 Tactical marines, meltagun, missile launcher, combi-flamer, drop pod - 220

I played a seven pod SW list for awhile & loved it, but lost alot too; I see your point about fluff & game. I found that using the pods to build a wall or a castle helped alot. I also ran jumppack marines with a chaplain (or another IC) and jumped around to whoever needed me. This worked with Skyclaws because they had 4As on the charge and that little bit helped.
