I was reading another thread about the Citadel paint pots and came across one opinion that the Vallejo Game Colour paint range has identical colours to GW, just under different names. I'd like to buy the range for its better value, having used a small number of GW paints at home and doing most of my painting at the GW store. Having done some research, I then saw that the paints were divided into different colour schemes for historical themes. Is it better that I buy the full set for Vallejo Game Colours, or keep going with GW paints? I'm in the middle of painting an army and wish to keep the same colour scheme, and I need the colours to be identical to the GW paints. Please tell me, are the Vallejo Game Colours identical to the GW range?

I have used the Citadel paints and there Vallejo equivalents and can safely tell you that they are near Identical. For instance, I have been painting my skavens robes with the Vallejo equivalent of blood red and did not notice any difference between the new ones and the old ones which I used the citadel blood red to paint. I dont no if this is helpful, but hear is a citadel to Vallejo conversion chart:

Yes, they are almost identical. The Game Color line is directly based on the GW colors, even down to the names.

I would stay clear though from the Vallejo Dark Green and the Orange Fire - I found it impossible to get a decent coverage with those two.

Cheers,

I found the Vallejo Blood Red equivalent to be slightly brighter than the Citadel one.....

Decided to give them a go today. The only problem, and its a big one, with Vallejo is that they dry way too shiny. I bought a bottle of black and now I fell that I will only be using it for bases, if that. Has a very tacky texture after drying as well. Theres always anti shine spray, but me buying another thing seems counter productive to why I looked to Vallejo in the first place. Relatively dissapointed.

Never had a problem with shiny or tacky vgc. Maybe you got a bad bottle or didn't shake it well enough?

To the OP, Not all vgc colors are equal, the metallics I still prefer gw, but the difference with Vallejo is there line goes way beyond just the game color line, the model color line is huge and fully compatible , as well as he model air line designed for airbrushing and is pre-thinned. Throw in the primers, additives and mediums and you've got a huge range of choices.

I'll just chime in that I use vgc and love it. Get some lava beads to drop in you droppers to help mix them up and that will get rid of any shiney or non-adhereance. All almost identical except metals.. Those are way off but more true, aka shining gold it bright
