Subject: Hunt for the Fallen - 2000 Point Dark Angels - Feedback wanted

Greetings again all,
Continuing on with my ever growing list of themed army lists I have decided on a Dark Angel idea. It is not particularly inventive, but they already have such a solid background I have decided with this army to just fit in. Anyway.....
I envisage that a group of Dark Angels (played by the tactical squads) have been pinned down and need assistance. Their prayers have been answered by the sudden appearance of the Ravenwing and then Deathwing. However, their appearance is simply because their target has appeared, lured by the hapless tactical marines that the Interrogator Chaplain allowed to be ambushed in the first place. All the better to flush out the target.....
I hope that this is somewhat in keeping with the Dark Angels quest, without seeming too traitorous.
On to the list, hope it is somewhat competitive.
Interrogator Chaplain - Terminator Armour (Is he a villain or just single minded?)
Deathwing Squad - Assault Cannon, Chainfist (These Guys will teleport into the think of it and hopefully provide a real nuisance)
Deathwing Squad - Cyclone Missile Launcher, Chainfist
Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Lascannon, Meltagun (The unfortunate bait, but still, 30 marines is nothing to be sniffed at)
Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Plasma Cannon, Plasma Gun
Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Plasma Cannon, Plasma Gun
Ravenwing Attack Squadron - 6 Bikes, Powerfist, Flamer, Meltagun, Attack Bike with Multi-Melta, Landspeeder with Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon. (These guys will split into combat squads for sure)
Ravenwing Support Squadron - 2 Landspeeders, 1 with Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon
Ravenwing Support Squadron - 2 Landspeeders, 1 with Typhoon Missile Launcher
There it is. I think its 2000 Points, the lack of armour is possibly a concern, but I believe the army fits the desired theme. The tactical marines will set up together in the heaviest cover I can find and the rest of the army will then swing about this anchor. Although tactically it may put me at a disadvantage I would like to play this army almost as two seperate forces highlighting the fact the Death and Raven Wings are there for a specific purpose rather than there to aid their battle brothers.
Thanks for reading.

Ok going with your theme. I like it. It fits as that is what would happen. Lets try to make it a bit more.
I have the idea of just one squad of marines. They are in dire straits for help. So this is what I came up with.
Belial
Chaplain: Term armor
Deathwing: Apoth, Banner, CML
Deathwing: CML
Deathwing: CML
Tactical squad: Plasma cannon, Plasmagun
-Sgt: Plasma Pistol, PW
-Razorback: T-L Lascannon
Ravenwing x6: 2x Plasmaguns
Ravenwing support: Typhoon, MM
Ravenwing support: Typhoon, MM
Vindicator: Dozer
Vindicator: Dozer
This is 2k even. The idea is still the same but I thihk a bit more competitive. With Belial you have terminators as troops to double there effectiveness. Combat squad your tactical squad to help with target saturation. Speeders and bikes could be held n reserve if you wanted. The terminators can DS useing the DWA rule or keep them on board as well.
Well I hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight, I was a bit hesitant to go the way of Belial or Sammel, sort of thought that is something that may be fairly common. But I see what you are getting at. Maybe I could take the three deathwing squads as elites without Belial???
I like the idea of using only one tactical squad though, 30 marines in my previous list is less a bait and more a sledgehammer.

How about one or two squads of scouts as they preliminary force. Then Belial and ravenwing coming to support them once they find some evidence of fallen. That would fit the fluff as well.
Tactical squads are not great for vanilla and worse for DA. Try Razorbacks if you must. Or go for the scouts as then you can not take tactical squads.

I really like the idea of scouts, far more disposable and I am a little sick of tactical squads to tell you the truth. I will rework the army with scouts, probable two 10 man squads. Thanks for your help.

The idea of 2 squads of scouts is nice. Never really thought about them as they don't do anything for me. But I am alittle baffled at you remark about tactical squad are not that great. I use 4 squads of tac marines in my DA list and they have done just what I needed then to do. They have the fire power when needed they can hold there own against most units in CC. Coupled with rhinos or razorbacks they can actually be a force to be reckened with. I can't say the same for scouts. There crappy BS/ WS does little for them. There weapon options isn't the greatest and they lack surviveability. Now I use the regular marine codex for my all marine DA army as its cheaper and better for me to use and will have to agree that the DA codex tac squad is alittle lackluster. But for you to say they are not great just stuns me.
After thinking about it he can't use scouts as troops as they are elites for DA, but if he uses Belial then it shouldn't be a problem. Then again it would take away 2 elite slots to take a couple of units that in my opinion are worse then Tac squads could ever be. Thats just my opinon on the matter.
I would like to see a revised list with some scouts in there.
Good Luck!

I am willing to argue that vanilla players only pick tactical squads because they are a forced choice. Anyway I was referring to the DA codex which I was assuming people still sometimes use.
Tactical squads in rhinos are just too expensive for DA. 5 men in a laserback I can agree with however though try making them balance without bringing Deathwing squads.
Then BS/ WS 4 for scouts which is the highest you can have apart from 2 models in your army. They have 36'' range weapon which complements the CML well, as I am suggesting Deathwing army, means taking the scouts as support helps the list.
Out of the DA elite options the only one which really fits Deathwing are the dreads. However dreads are so similar to the capabilities of the Deathwing that I tend to ignore them. Basically elite slots are not so important.
Good luck as well . Start playing games with whatever models you feel like, I am sure they will look cool if nothing else.

Ok if you are talking just from the DA Dex I can agree with you. You made it sound like all Tac marines were horrible. Thats my misunderstanding I guess.
Oh I agree they can be a nice support for a deathwing army. The problem is he didn't feel lke using Belail so he would not be able to take the Deathwing and scouts. That was my issue with your statement.
@MFletch: Start playing games with whatever models I feel like. What is that supposed to mean? The Good Luck was for the OP by the way.

That was to OP as was the good luck. Thought I wouldn't derail the thread by having one line on topic.
