So wanted to speed paint up a regiment of chaos warriors and wanted a dark colour on their cloak. Looking at the foundation paints chose chardon granite, one I hadn't used before. From the name sounded a nice dark grey. When applied it comes out as.... erm.. greyish, greenish, brownish???
Looked not too bad after a devlan miracle or black wash, but not sure where to head with the highlight layers for the colour, any suggestions?

Did you shake it up?

Charadon Granite is a good color, but it really needs to be shaken up.
Anyways, best highlight colors for CG are Codex Grey or if you want to go an opposite direction...Dheneb Stone/Kommando Khaki.

I find Charadon Granite is more of a green myself.

Charadon Granite is one of my most favorite colors. I use it a LOT, and it has a mild green kind of shine/ color. That can be used to your advantage, I think. All foundations should be shaken before use

Remember that black paint is a mix of all colours so greys tend to come out 'warm' (eg Codex grey & Chardon Granite) or 'cold' (space wolves grey).
Aim to use warmer greys to highlight it & you won't go wrong.
Or just add white!
Also it's a great base for steel - just drybrush boltgun then mithril over it.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I might try it for the steel, was just using it for cloaks just now . I think adding white would be very harsh for highlighting though?

Charadon Granite is more of a dark brown (sort of a rubber tyre colour).

It's pretty good for painting the road wheels on tanks.

I also love Charadon Granite, because it's such a vague colour - grreny, browny, grey...err grey-y?

It's the predominant colour in my IG army and was used to basecoat my Valkyrie - i'll get some pics up later but i hightlighted it with graveyard earth and a very subtle highlight of bleached bone on top of that (pushing it toward the brown spectrum).
