I'm considering dropping the bucks for a Voidraven bomber as I get back into my BSMD elves in space.......Using that beautiful Razorwing jetfighter model.

I've heard a lot of nay saying on it but I think it can be viable in some lists. I guess the real question is: 30 pts for a pie plate that kills single wound models (Most models) on a +2 with no armor saves....YES? Or too expensive to work? It seems like a nice see ya later terminator weapon to me ....And has a 50% chance to force an inv save on most ICs (3 wounds mostly) which seems like a nice bonus which will insta gib on the fail. And she's still packing the dreaded void lance in a pair.

Then she's 175 pts before the much needed night shield and/or flicker fields.

Is the pie plate worth it?

In a word? No.

For one, it's not a large blast. It's a small blast. So it can't put out nearly as many wounds as the other missiles. For another, Voidravens are already incredibly expensive (points wise) and any implosion missiles just jack that price up exponentially.

The only time I could see it as useful would be against an a footslogging terminator force. Then you might get your money's worth out of it, but it's such a situational weapon. I've had great success using Voidravens with 4 Shatterfields and a flickerfield. 195 points, only 10 points more expensive than a Voidraven with 1 Implosion missile and a flickerfield.

Not to mention it would do far far more damage on TEQs just by the sheer number of forced saves.

Implosion missiles don't ignore cover. Since you have to fire all the missiles as soon as possible (otherwise your thing is dead), it means you're shooting stuff in cover.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Oops yeah small blast. Got it mixed up with all the other large blast missiles.

That makes it one VERY expensive small blast.

One very uncompetitive small blast.

It just costs too much. They are fun to use, against DSing terminators (since they are all bunched up), but otherwise I'd leave them at home. I try to keep all missiles off of my voidraven if possible. I use it a platform for lascannons with lance and if neccessary drop the bomb on some terminators that try to get a cheap one off on it.
