I am aware that Kroot do not nom on the Nids, but why not? What happens when they do? Is there any definitive fluff sources that describe Kroot eating a nid, and bursting into a ripper swarm, or be getting all mind jacked by the Nids?

Most likely its that they don't want to be mind jacked.

Since kroot absorb DNA from what they eat and incorporate it into their DNA, it seems likely that they might accidentally tap into the hive mind and die instantly or be enslaved.

I just read this the other day, can't remember where, but eating nids leads to harmful mutations and evolutionary dead ends. The othr Kroot creatures like hounds and Krootox were Kroot that hit dead ends and eating nids can cause them to end up like that I believe.

Any specifics as to what mutations and dead ends is basically what I am looking for. The loss of sentience seems to be the overall reason why the kroot avoid most food, just curious what form it would take with Nids.

Tyranids come off as pretty toxic. Many of them excrete poison, acid/poison in their bodies seems to be pretty commonplace. Probably not a good idea to try and snack on one.

That and the mindjacking thing. Hive Mind is serious gak that drives Astropaths to insanity at just the briefest sense, not something you want to experience.

Kroot lose sentience when they eat things without it. So If a kroot only eats only eats mindless animals then they will end up in a mindless animal. Kroot don't eat nids because nids are just full of all kinds of crazy DNA and that would mutate them too much. I imagine sprouting extra arms going feral maybe even growing a hive link. Just because it makes a better image then them just falling over dead because there new nid style heart pumps blood backwards.

Its basically because of Tyranids extreme mutability being built into its DNA, and while Kroot want mutability, they don't want it to the extent they get it from Tyranids.

Being highly toxic is a good trait and would be a very good reason for Kroot to hunt them.

There is no definative fluff answer as the only fluff involved talks about a Shaper knowing he has to stop his group from eating 'nids, but from extrapolating it is either due to 'nids mutability, low intelligence or hive mind.

Both Kroot and Genestealers have manipulative DNA trying to dominate. You can't predict who would win this fight on the monecular level, most likely you get molecular garbage. Only source for an incident is the novel "For the Emperor", where a shaper smells Tyranid taint and orders his kindred to regurgulae the tainted Genestealer flesh immediately.

Ah, ok. Well, if I ever pick up Nids, there is probably a pretty neat conversion in there somewhere I guess. Thanks for the replys, and the source bit about "For the Emperor" was great.

"For the Emperor" is perhaps the best Tau and Kroot novel so far.

Going to have to look into to "For the Emperor". The Kroot Merc Codex is great. Still some questions, obviously, like what happens when the Kroot eat Tau, but I imagine, in time all will be answered.
