Subject: New to BFG, tips on fleet composition?

So, I've been hauling in BFG ships for a while now, mostly just for the sake of modeling a fleet for my armies, but in the odd case of some big campaign with space battle in it, or if I can convince someone else to start collecting BFG too, I thought I might as well have a reasonably fieldable force.
So for my Imperial fleet, I currently have assembled;
1x Retribution
2x Dictators
1x Gothic (Built form a Admech light cruiser hull)
And unassembled...
1x Retribution (missing some parts, so will probably be modded somehow)
1x Admech BB
6x Cruisers
8x Cobra
9x Sword
+ a couple of big Gundam battleships that will probably be modded into something or other.
Now, I've been thinking a spearhead with a Retribution flanked by two Dictators would be a viable strategy, so the rest of my fleet should probably aim to support this. I've been wanting to make the other Retribution into a Emperor or possibly even a Nemsis to sit back and churn out fighters, and lots of lances feels right with the Admech BB, so maybe build it as a Apocalypse? For the rest of the cruisers, I've been mostly contemplating 2 each of Jovians, Dominator and Gothics, but lacking any experience with the game I figured it be best to ask for some opinions from more seasoned gamers.
At the same time I'm also planning to build a almost entirely scratchbuilt or converted Ork fleet, including as much as possible from the entire range, and being modeled as vague as possible so most ships can be fielded as anything I require. And since I find it doubtful that my main gaming partners will be likely to buy their own fleets anytime soon, I thought I might as well make this Ork fleet as optimized as possible to go against my imperial fleet, so I could loan one fleet out if nessecary. Thus, any tips on fleet composition for the Ork fleet to go well against the Imperial one would be greatly appreciated.

I'm rather fond of the Ret myself, so your ideas sound decent to me. In would recommend getting the Swords ready to go first, they are one of the better escorts out there.
Keep in mind, ships like the Nemesis and Jovian aren't official; doesn't sound like it will be in issue in your case though since you aren't looking to do pickup or tournament play.

... Compendium 2010 / Battlefleet Bakka (iirc).
Enough choice. Get two Lunars as it is mainstay. A Dominator as it is good.

I checked the Bakka list and the FAQ, but I couldn't find a mention of the Nemesis. The only new BB I'm aware of are the Vanquisher and Victory classes. I'm really curious as to what the loadout of this alleged Nemesis is.

I would reccomend getting some Dauntless light cruisers. they provide massive bang for your buck. I reccomend Lance weaponry.

Got the Nemesis (Dorsal lance battery, and all launch bays) and the Jovian (Pretty much the same) from a compendium I found somewhere (Additional ships compendium 1.4). Apparently the Jovian was originally in some issue of BFG magazine while the Nemesis was from Planet Killer #1. The Nemesis seemed a bit more tempting than the Emperor since it was more of a full carrier, while the Emperor's broadside seemed a bit pointless if it's going to be in the middle of a well protected formation. But I guess the Emperor would be the easiest choice anyways.
And what for the Admech BB then? The Ark Mechanicus/Omnissiah's Victory doesn't seem so fabulous, but going all lances and a Nova cannon with a Victory seems more fitting their image.
Also, for Lunars, would you recommend the extra nova cannons? From what I've been reading they seem to be a bit cheesy, and probably wouldn't give the Ork fleet a fair chance.

Yeah, the inaccuracy issues typically means you will want more than one. The thumbrule I prefer to use is not having more than one per 500 points, as I don't want to miss out on too many torps (which tend to be more reliably damaging since you aren't concerned about scatter).
