Are there any kind of pearlessence paints suitable for modeling ? I did a search(here at dakka) and only one comment popped up in reference to it that it was cheaper than gw paint but nothing about who made it. Ive only seen a few models with what i assume to be pearlessence paint jobs and they are wicked looking and thought if possible in trying out a paint scheme using pearlessence. Any help would be appreciated.

Somewhere in south-central England.

You can also get pearlescent/iridescent medium to mix with standard acrylic paint. This will let you pearlize any colour of paint.

Wow, Killkrazy you are brilliant i didn't realise this stuff existed. A pearlised Black would be awesome for my Navy troopers.

EDIT:- was thinking through this and pearlessence might not work with Black.

Found this, whipped out my credit Card and bought it on the spot. Report to follow. I love painting.

They work pretty well but be careful painting them on, they need to go on smooth

same brand/type of paint is also an excellent range of semi transparent paint/colored washes/whatever for the dont-want-to-spend-a-fortune-on-basecoat-paints painter in me

Another thing you can try that works REALLY well on model cars I used to do, so Im thinking it would work well on minis/tanks. Paint the mini in question with a bright silver color, so in mini land Id say Mithril Silver or similar. Then say you want them red for example, you use a red wash or red ink type of paint, you can make them yourself if you want, do a search youll find tutorials. Then apply the wash/ink (it looks better with inks as they have a certain look to their finish but it does work with washes a bit) and thats it. The silver coat will come through the red, or whatever color you choose to use, and it gives the model a really cool look.

I have used these paints on some of my larger minis http://www.thecustompaintshop.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=42_2063_2174 and http://www.thecustompaintshop.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=42_2055_2132 . The problem with pear/shift paints, as mentioned before, is that they don't work well on small surfaces.

If you look in my gallery, at the Eldar, the larger vehicles work well but the jetbikes just don't have the surface area for the paint to be effective. Also the colour shift looks great (pig to photograph properly) on my nids in daylight, but again it only really comes to life on the larger creatures. Where I have used it on genestealer shoulder plates it is inefective, so I would say use it on your vehicles (my marine ones are getting a dose of pearl silver) but not your troops.

Seconding Lunahound's craft paint reccomendation-I use the Anita's brand from Hobby Lobby, and I've been really pleased with how it turned out. Worked nicely as both a main color and mixed with some blue for drybrushing.

I think Pearlescent Grey would make amazing Grey Knights.
