Well I'm making a 500P army and I'm stumped on the question of how many Boyz I need and the Optimum squad sizes.

I've only ever run 30-40 Boyz, but I'm stumped on whether thats enough or to many. Now too put the context in, I will have too Include a Boomgun with Armour plates. So that's 115P's out of that.

Now what would you suggest with the other 385P?

Currently it goes like 35-85P HQ and 40 Boyz split into two twenties. Now I'm not sure that's enough and I don't want to have a Squad of 10 and one with 30. So I'm stuck. Is 40 Boyz Optimum in conjunction with the Boomgun? Or should I use less and get other useful things like Lootas.

Help

If your boys are on foot, they should be 30 man squads. Anything less is asking for trouble.

If you absolutly have to include both the HQ and the boomgun (the latter of which is never great), I'd bring as many boys as possible, split evenly.

All of em.

2x full boyz squads, Nob w/PK and BP= 440 pts

Stock warboss

500 pts of pure green pwnage.

I'm going out on a limb assuming you're playing on a 4x4' board (6'x4' sucks for such small games), and with this list you can basically cover the whole thing end to end.

^^ that - at 500 Orks should bring boyz, then bring some more Boyz, and then keep bringing boyz.

Well the HQ is mandatory. So minimum of 35P.
The Boomgun has served me very well, I was wondering what compliments it best.

More Boyz? Because I can have another five and end up with 25 In the PK squad and 20 in the other.
And upgrade my Boss with 20P worth of stuff or get another PK.

Is your ideal opponent Space Marines, if so, you don't need the ap3 boomgun, cash that in for a unit of 20 boys, nob etc and on average every 1 in 3 dice he rolls one guy will die, 20 boys, 2 base, 3 dual weapon, 4 on the charge. 4 attacks per guy, theys goin' die.

If on foot, your boyz mobs should be around 20-30 boyz strong, with atleast 2-3 mobs in your list. But since you're playing at around the 500 pts level, just take your Warboss, bring as many boyz as you can and enjoy the krumping

Even on foot, you should always aim for as many mobs of 20 as possible before starting to field larger mobs.

If you want to keep your boomwagon, you should go with either 2x20 boyz and a BC warboss, or a 2x19 boyz and a KFF mek. Definitely lose those armor plates, they don't do anything for a vehicle which isn't supposed to move much in the first place.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Fair point. I had a brain fail and thought they allowed shooting, yes quite a big fail.

Anyway that frees up some points, I could get 'Eavy armour or Upgrade the Boomgun with Big Shoota and some else.

I've got a squad of 25 and one of 20. So I'm fine

How does that fit into 500 points? Are you skipping the powerklaws?

Drop everything, do 40 shoota boyz and footslog if you insist on taking the boomgun, and take claws per squad

ALSO, consider taking a Speed Freakz list if you have the models, it surprisingly works well at that point level

Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.

500pts are a boon for orks. Being able to drown your opponent in models at that point level will give you the victory. Trying anything but green tide will have you loose.

Loose the boomwagon- it will get you nothing that boyz for the same points will get. At 500, you are not facing land raiders or massed amounts of terminators; you will be facing tactical squads and scouts with maybe a dread thrown in. Any more than that and your opponent is going over points.

A warboss or KFF walking towards the enemy until you rip them apart will give you the victory 99% at that point level.
