I'm liking the glowy-chest reactors, but the rest of the paintjob makes them look like toys.

Yeah... I like the look of the figures, but at that price per unit for a new game? I don't know about that.

Always like seeing new offerings from the Mercs crew.
Models look good, but the color scheme is hideous.

Apparently the painting was done on the quick to show the minis off, on the MERCS website, one fo the team has apologised and put up some unpainted versions so people can get a clearer view of the models:

No matter how you baek it though, these minis ( IMHO) are not worth the money, especially when you consider how (un)popular the game seems to be. I don't think most of the range (other than House 9) will proxy into most other settings....maybe Infinity as mercenaries (ironically ) but I think that's about it.

So, what does this game offer that infinity doesn't?
That's the main thing I'm thinking right now, since the sculpting is very similar in quality and style, but the price points are much higher.

Gameplay wise, they are radically different games. Being sci-fi miniatures doesn't make them a copy of Infinity any more than Infinity isn't a copy of 40k.

From what I remember you buy your 6 man faction and you're done. You choose your 5 man team from those 6 guys for every game, but that's all you need, ever.
The play area is also smaller than the usual 4'x4' as I recall.

People comparing these to Infinity need to consider that Infinity is 28mm scale on 25mm bases and Mercs is 32mm on 30mm "lipped" bases. Their scales are quite different and the models are mostly incompatible with one another.

There is actually very little "difference" in scale between the two ranges. In fact, due to posing, and the variability in miniature sizes in the Infinity range, you'd really be hard pressed to reject MERCS minis for use in that game.
As far as the MERCS minis being of the same quality as Infinity miniatures, I think only a person who has not seen both lines together "in the flesh" could make that statement.
MERCS minis appear to be sculpted by a very talented enthusiast, rather than an industry proffessional! Of course this is only my opinion, but I base this on having owned both ranges and bening able to critically review both products! The MERCS miniatures appear very blocky, and the armour appears much more "cartoony" rather than based on any real world investigation into fit and form, which in some ways chracterises the design and sculpting of the Infinity line.
