So im looking to base my VC army on swarmp bases. I've seen a set of swamp bases but i cant remember where and i know that they werent exactly what i wanted. If anyone can point me in the direction of some swamp themed bases that'd be great.
Or if anyone knows where to get something like the GW water effects. I could get to making my own.

Wyrd minatures makes soem, but they are metal inserts and you'd have to do some work to make them work for you.

For water effects, I prefer Vallejo Still Water.

Alright cool thanks guys. I might have a crack at making my own. That ones from Microart are the ones ive seen before and they just arent swampy enough for my likeing. That Vallejo Still water looks the stuff though thanks Catyrpelius.

Yeah thats almost exactly what im after. I want it so it looks like the skeles and stuff are wading through about ankle deep swampy muck. How did you make it so the water effects doesnt spill off the sides?

By recessing the base. I cut a slotta base to basically just the rim and filled it using the base itself to contain the effects. I'd probably use warmahordes bases and hollow them if I didn't have literally hundreds of GW bases.
For ankle deep I'd use whatever rim you want (the new thinner water bottle caps are actually about the right size too.) glue the card to the bottom, add whatever you want the swamp bottom to look like and the model and then effects.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In the base I showed I used a rock (it's actually a rein fast of a piece of sandstone) the vines are GS, and the assorted rubble is medium ballast.

Nice work, AustonT.

What water effect product do you use, and can it take paint or inks? Swamp water is usually murky, and while one wouldn't want it realistically murky because then one couldn't see the details on the plants and bottom, a little bit of olive green in the water would look good.

I don't know that I'd recommend it but I used a polyester resign from castin craft. Envirotex smells better and isn't as toxic. It may be hard to tell but the water is green. I tinted 1oz of mixed resin with 2 drops of Hauser Medium Green. I can take a picture or what dried in the cup, it's VERY green but the effect on the base is still subtle.

You see what ideally i would like something like this...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/116327-Quit%20ye%20rollin%60%21%20Ye%60r%20frightenin%60%20my%20fish%21.html only on a much smaller scale.
So only a couple of mm on the base, basiclly skeleton ankle height. I dont know how to do it though.

Edit* - millimeter not multi melta.

There was a tutorial in a Wyrd Miniatures newsletter that covered it, but I can't find it right now. The painter who made the base for the ice golem explains the process. IIRC, he used the plastic from the blister to make a cofferdam around the part of the base where he wanted the water effect. After the resin was poured and set, he removed the cofferdam.

@AustonT: Thanks.

Slight tangent: Have just discovered this site, Senji Studios. There's a bayou board for Malifaux which might help in making swamp bases (free downloadable e-zine), and his Chaos Trees are incredible! (Also a free e-zine). Now I want a Chaos tree or two for my games!

Hamster, Thanks for senji studios link. I found that article about making the bayou bored and it was really good. Now all i need to do is get my hands on some water effects and im on my way.

Oh and your right. Those Chaos trees are really cool. The one thats getting groped by the "branch" is uh... is an interesting sculpt.
