Hi all.
So I just got tabled by slogging marines, were doing a campain and we played suprise attack in the battle missions book, I deploy anywhere bar 6in from all table edges, I put all my tanks (5 of which) in a circle rear facing in, in the top right corner and my walkers in a ruin. I think it was mainly the luck if the dice, but weve done this mission twice now and the first time wasnt much different except I was in the middle of the board.
Anyway he took 4 of my tanks first turn(marines go first) and it was over after that, any words of wisdom dakka?

What did he take down your tanks with? Wave Serpents or what variant?

Seems like it could be a combinations of some bad dice rolling and a bad draw for deployment if you're stuck in the middle and your opponent gets first turn (I don't have my Battle Missions book on me).

If you're setting up second (and I know this may be difficult depending on terrain or whatever) but make sure you try and hide your serpents or give them cover best you can.

Well, if you go 2nd, then you can benefit from his deployment, say by refusing a flank and so avoiding his main anti-tank weapons. Or you could stay in reserve but including an Autarch in order to bolster reserve rolls.
How did your list look like?

Thing is on the mission we played, I deploy first with no reserves and he gets to reserve all he wants and can enter on any tsble edge :s, he blew up my tanks with a full las pred, squad of devs 3 missle 1 las cannon, t/l las cannon dread and 2 turreted strong holds (a strategem for the campain were doing) witch is a batle cannon.

My list was.
5 da, serpent
5 da, serpent
Autarch, 5 da, falcon
Prism
5 f dragons serpent
2 w walkers
And rediculiously(sp?) Enough the avatar lol (long story)

That's a pretty strange mission. If he enters (from any table edge?) the Dev's cannot fire and the Pred can fire only one lascannon.
The list seems to be fine. A Falcon with holofield can take a punch before it goes down. You need to position your tanks such that some of them get cover.

Thats what I was going for, but probaly the wrong way round lol, ie using a tank to get a cover save for a diferent tank lol, and he can set up on any table edge within 6in to so thats how the devs and pred smashed me.

Oh yea I usaly take a doom/guide seer instead of the avatar but he had to sit this game out.
