Hi there. Quick question. Can a skimmer, such as the Valkyrie or Vendetta, willingly take off it's base mid game? (Thus allowing them to be placed on the table without being immobilized or wrecked.)

I know Tau skimmers technically can since they have older rules pertaining to landing gear. I was wondering if Valkyries and Vendettas can do the same. Opinions or specific rules would be appreciated. Thanks.

No you cannot remove the base. In fact removing the base is optional (and not always possible) when the model is immobilised.

Page 3 BRB: Citadel miniatures are normally supplied with a plastic base. If so, they must be glued onto their bases before they can be used in the game.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

To the OP, think of it this way: would you allow your opponent to remove the bases to his infantry minis to get more models per square inch onto the battlefield? Probably not. So, before trying to make too many arguments as to why you need to be able to do this, consider why the rule exists. IT's not to screw over the players who use particular models, it's to make players NOT cram their models in so tight to avoid everything. Things get shot at and shot down, its part of the game. And if you mis-deploy/maneuver your vehicles and they get lost due to poor placement, them's the breaks...

I woudl agree on removing the base to show the vehicle was immobilized/wrecked. other than that, no.
